Default New driver, New to cars, choose Ford KA, but no manu' manual. Help?!

Hi All

I wouldn't normally resort to joining a forum to bother other people to help me. However, I am a new driver, and recently bought a 1999 Ford KA petrol car.

She runs lovely as far as i can tell (bit of a dodgy speaker on the right) and the only hiccup is the airbag warning light staying on (which is going back to garage for tomorrow), but I have no idea on how to keep on top of maintainence, FAQs etc etc, and due to not having the owners/manufacturors manual, theres a few knobs and things I am unsure of purpose.

I cant find a manual online anywhere.

is anyone able to help with this manual business? Or indeed, any pointers for a new driver owning this car?

Thank you
Lou

Hi,
Welcome to the passion ford forum, and to the world of motoring!!
The KA is a good car, doesn't have many weaknesses, but what controls are you stuck with ?, do you know anyone else with a KA, so you could have a look through their owners handbook, you would be able to buy a owners handbook from ford, or cheaper from adtrader from someone breaking one, could also put a wanted add in there for one.
As for maintenance make sure once a week to check the(engine) coolant level, just above the minimum is ideal, check the oil, when the engine is cold, ie left overnight is ideal, check brake fluid level, even though there is a warning light for this if low, washer fluid needs to be checked topped up as needed.
Once a month check the tyre pressures when cold.
Your best bet would be to go to a car shop and buy a HAYNES workshop manual for the car, tell the staff what year your car is and they will get the right one for you, this is a gold mine of information on the car, and covers all the daily/weekly checks etc, as well as general servicing.
Don't worry about joining a forum, I've been working on cars for around 34 years now, started helping when 11 years old!!
You will get a warm welcome, with all of the info you need, ask as many questions as you like, there's always stack loads of good guys/gals on here to help.

Hi and welcome, basically as said above, the KA is a good car and simple to live with, the engine is actually old but was revised for the KA (1.3 HCS) again providing it's looked after it will see you for miles of trouble free motoring. Haynes manuals are a must for every car you own really and at around Ł15 there a bargain! They also have a service schedule in them so if you were inclined you could also do your own servicing!
