Default Pug 205 MI Conversion

Hey guys, swapping my rs for my brothers mi16. My plan is to turn it into a track weapon but going to sort out niggly bits for mot first. Supposedly engine isnt sitting correctly hence the driveshaft problems but been on some pug websites and they only mention a uprated mount so it doesnt hit master cylinder but nothing about the inch spacer ive been told required could anyone tell me the score so I can sort it out? Cheers

didnt need any spacers when i fitted mine.

You sure the 'spacer' they are on about isnt for the exhaust manifold?
basically with the standard mi16 exhaust manifold, it can hit the bulkhead of the car,
so you need a little 'wedge' shape spacer to go between the head and the exhaust manifold.

What driveshaft problems are you having??

if the car was a 1600 gti and you are trying to fit an mi16 or 1900 gearbox, then the splines are slightly different IIRC.

hi mate its defo an inch spacer on the mount they are talking about, engine sitting to far back according to some people who have had a look. Maybe just need the uprated mount ive read about on sites? It just seems to eat driveshafts, it has a diesel gearbox in it. The shafts look like they need brought up so they are more level which would resort basck to this inch spacer thing if engine lifted at back the shafts would be alot straighter if you get me? They seem to be aiming into sky at moment.

sounds like it's be angled to fit (bodge) rathe than use the wedge,

ideally you want the engine sitting at the correct angle ( they are angled as std, just in case you didnt know)

get a wedge, get it sitting right and i suspect your drive shaft issues with go away

join the 205 drivers forum and search there, loads of info on there

i reckon i got one in the garage somewhere. they are quite a lot of money for what you get

only thing i dont know is, if i've still got the bolts to attach it to the head with
(they are allen key bolts with almost countersunk heads, so allow for the wedge shape)

to have it sitting at correct (std) angle

driver mount must be std type (inc bbm one's)
bottom fork mus be std
and gearbox mount must be std,

thats it

yeah i seem to remember there being two pegs that slot in.. its been a while though, so could be wrong
if you need it
you can get an alloy rad off ebay for about £40 and they are brilliant.I had one, sure spiky has one too,
and you just never get any probs with them.

Nissens rad are great

Rad fits into two holes on the back of the fan cowling

Very simple , so don't worry about it

guy that fitted it said they were, how would I tell? And problem is it destroyed drivers side cv joint and now passenger side is away, but toff on here owned one and he never changed a driveshaft so thinks engine sitting incorrectly.

Have a look under the car at the engine mount on the drivers side. There is an engine mount there.

This is the one that gets extended approx 15mm. Easy to see if it's been welded up. Mines was like this too and it affected my gear change. I stuck a standard mount on and reangled my down pipe to suit. It worked a treat.

I have since changed the down pipe to a 4-2-1 set up.

Has the lip on your tunnel been cut back where the exhaust starts to go under the car from the bulk head, If so my down pipe would likely fit your car, It's got a lambda boss welded in also. Yours for £40 notes if you collect it.

Will have a look tomorow is this mount on top or underneath? it has a 4-2-1 on it at present so no issue with exhaust clearance and dont look like bulkhead modified. Will check this mount out tomorrow morning and update. Cheers.
