Now I still got a standard 1.6 turbo engine... Workin on a new one, also a 1.6 but totally worked out!
The one i've got now probably will run as fast as an xr3i, it's weak and almost got 200.000 on the clock. The new one will if everything is working out run over 200hp but we'll see.. Have to hit the roller first to find out

Not sure what mine will produce when it is finished but it is reasonably swift at 14psi as it is...

Will be running a bit more than 14 when it's finished though.

It's a 1600 CVH BTW.

1.6 rebuilt useing 0.5 oversize pistons standard rebuild, head reconed by my tuner.

spec on rest of car

pro alloy intercooler and rad
piper cam
superchipped ecu
k&n airfilter
scorpion exhaust
silicon hoses

187 bhp at only 10 psi boost proven

boost can be turned up to 16-17 when warrentes run out looking at way over 200 bhp in the summer but may stay at this sort of power as dont want a reliabity issues.

total cost

proally cooler and rad was about Ł700
piper cam was about Ł200 with followers etc
k&n Ł50
chipped ecu and fitting seting up Ł300
exhaust Ł300
silicon hoses Ł80
engine and head rebuilt including fitting Ł1700
set cost Ł30 and all future set ups cost the same

so about Ł3000 all in gets u a quick car but then theres the gearbox and clucth issue that may or may not need addressing

Realy sorry to hear about the car.
Hope you get a chance to de-skin the c*cksuckers that took her and then roll them in gritting salt.
Hope you get something at least as good sorted out to replace her (if that's possible).

Oh, by the way, all steel 1597cc CVH running approx. 23 PSI from a T35 with charge cooler etc. etc. etc. 286bhp and 300 lb ft at just over 7000 rpm. Now turned down to about 260 brake to give the gearbox a chance of survival (tends to make swarf out of them). Built about 6 or 7 years ago at enormous cost and still going strong.
Short of a group 4 MK II or big power Cossie, the best fun you can have with your trousers on.
Cheers.

Yeah it does It's very nice
That's not to say that being kicked up the **** would be nice.
But apparently according to one of my mates a long time ago, as a passenger 'it's like having a Recaro enema', but in a good way

Sort of got used to it now. 3rd, 4th and 5th gear acceleration on motorway still gets me though. It's quite bizarre, like being in a computer game.

When I originally got her, I scared myself so badly that it took both hands to get my bank card in the cash machine (possibly adrenalin) to get more petrol money after my first proper thrash.

She's like a sodding cocaine habit.

I have to stop myself from driving her so as to keep my license intact.

Still, she's padlocked in the garage with two cars parked in front of it and it's always raining, so I don't have to try too hard

Rain is the ultimate turn off - she tries to break traction at 105ish in 4th and will spin wildly in 3rd at 90 - not good when

All the best

Hi Bass boy, just typed out a realy comprehensive reply, Took me ages and when I submitted it all I got was a blank screen with invalid session at the bottom. I'll have to try it again sometime. I'm too knackered now.

Suffice to say, the car is black and was a privately owned Severn Valley Motorsport developement car.
It was featured in Performance Ford, August '98 Max Power and either Fast Car or Fast Ford between 1997 and 2000 (not sure of exact issues), so if you've got any of these they should make for some interesting reading. I wouldn't mind seeing them too
The spec was also listed on the SVM website but that isn't working at the moment.
Cheers and all the best.

I think i remember this car years back and i think in those days it had black wheels. It was featured in several magazines running around 285bhp and in one particular issue (dunno what mag) it was featured with a grey s2 which was running a 1.9 engine with just over 300 brake. I think both cars were owned at that time by svm. Will have a look at some of my old mags later on to see if i can spot it.

Yes, she still has the black wheels. They are factory satin black finished TSW evos (rare as hens teeth - i'm still trying to find a spare).

Both cars were privately owned, they just put the fake plates on for the articles to designate the tuning company and horsepower.

My friend Rob had purchased the car new in October of '89 as a birthday present to himself. He spent the next eleven years developing the car with various tuners and being ripped off by most of them.

He wanted big power and a linear/aspirated feel if at all possible.

He sort of achieved this by visiting SVM after he had just been extremely dissapointed by a well known South London race engine builder who had kept the car for six months and (among other scandalous things) had fitted a distorted crank from a blown up race engine in it. The engine was so bad that it barely made the drive to SVM and he kept having to stop and refill it with oil.

SVM salvaged the block (everything else had been ruined by the previous tuner or was just wrong for the engine), and set about creating a monster.

Kevan Kemp did this because he liked Rob so much and was so impressed by the look/condition of the car and wanted to use it as a business promotion. The net result was that Rob got a very very expensive engine at a good discount just for taking the car to a few photo shoots with some silly stickers on it.

The engine build was carried out by SVMs engine specialist, an ex Formula 1 engine builder called Ron Jones, and Kevan did the mapping and setting up as far as I am aware.

The Max Power article features the car shortly before the last of the big upgrades were made, so the Performance Ford one would probably be more up to date.

I think the other article (not sure whether Fast Car or Fast Ford) might actually have been from when the old girl had a Slater Motorsport 180ish BHP conversion and was featured with a red Slater car owned by a chap called Miguel (now sadly written off).
The Slater conversion was a lovely little package, easy on the transmission and very reliable and driveable. The car had RSi ratios at the time so made realy good use of the relatively low power.

The best treatment Rob ever had was by a nice chap called Russel Clark who used to race a Turbo in the Vecta Fast Ford series about 12 years ago and did various bits and pieces to the car in it's infancy.
I only ever met Russel once or twice and I think he is now a professional race instructor.

Hope i've clarified a few points and sorry about the longwinded reply.

Jim and James

Got to say the above car is the reason i am going to build a monster RST, love the fact its the same original 1600 CVH and has opended my eyes past the usual 1900/zvh conversion

Car feels rapid and imense so much so I thought my contact lenses were going to fly out of the window in the Dartford tunnel

woud be very interested to see what the full actual spec is for this car

Some realy interesting specs there, am loving all the 1600's but I admit to being biased

My car is 1597cc ran 26psi on its last spec, this winter has seen new development work carried out to the car and I should have an idea on what the final spec is and its optimum performance in the coming weeks

Things are looking good though with power at its peak at 7000rpm and not tailing off untill just after 7800rpm so there's plenty to be optamistic about
Just have to wait and see how more boost effects things.

Initialy when spec'ing the car I just wanted FAST but as times gone buy Ive found that I dont particularly enjoy 1/4 miles sprints even though the car in itself has potential for setting good time (13.9s being consistant on its 1st time up the strip).

So Ive built with track in mind, as Ive had SO much fun over the past year in various other cars on track but also want to retain an element of comfort for gaunts up the motorway

Plans for this year; Id like to do Croft, National Day as well as a few trips out to the Nurburgring.

Hi B8, hope you're well.
7800 rpm, top Must sound marvelous. Mine sounds amazing at about 7100/7200ish - like God's harder brother ranting at the top of his voice

Would love to see some pics of the throttle bofies if you've got any.

And a trip to the ring sounds like a great idea - If PF or anyone else for that matter is thinking of organising anything; i'd deffo be up for it
Cheers and all the best

Hi M8, am good thanx High reving engines do sound great your right, Ive a small clip with the car doing a rolling burnout where the limiter was well over 8k the sound is awesome.

I can do you a couple of pic's unfortunatly they dont show the Tb's to clearly but you will get the general idea.

I'll have some new pics in the coming weeks i'll make sure take some of the throttlebodies for you.

September should be the Big Trip to the ring so start saving people oh and get some practice in on Project Gotham 2 on the X Box and/or GT4 on the PS2

All work has been carried out by AVA from design and production of the manifolds, throttlebodies, inlet, engine spec & build management etc etc.

I'll see if I can get someone to host the clip, and I'll post it in here for a bit, leave it with me

Oh well i guess mines the oposite end of the scale
i had a std 1.6 cvh but it snapped a ring pulling out of my street (not booting in either )
so i had to get my only mode of transport going soon as .................... so i got a 1.8 zetec out of a skip which had BAD piston slap and converted it to zvh
slapped it in and off i went then i built a good one and thought i'll blow the one up in the car 1st just to see what its capable of and guess what its still there running 180 bhp with a stg 1 chip in and i give it death everywhere i go boot it from cold the works and it still comes back for more its still in there now 9 months on with no signs of failing just yet need more boost to blow it up hopefully fitting a stg 2 ecu soon so thats good for 18psi i hope and if it still wont blow its coming out i cant wait anymore ........................ 2.1 here i come
