Default Electric Windows

Hi,

Anyone knows whether it is possible to install Sapphire Cosworth electric window motors to the manual mechanism of a standard Sapphire 1.8 which just has central locking and a manual winder?

If so, would the 1.8 also have the wiring ready and I will just need to plug in to the loom or will I need to pass separate wiring?

Thanks everyone.

At first thought almost certainly won't have the wiring in the doors for EW, check the wires by pulling out the grommet at one of the rear doors to expose the wires within, and see how many there are, if there's just 2 or three then no window supply.
That said the fact it has CL as std(?), they may well be there, as can't see ford making two looms with CL one with EW one without, so you could be lucky, if not easy to do anyway.
It might help to removed the surround around the gear lever, and see if there is a large window switch connector tucked around there ?

Hi tabetha,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Besides the electrics, do you think I could use the existing mechanism and just replace the manual winder with the electric motor? I'm asking mostly since my manual mechanism is practically new whilst the one off the Cosworth has seen better days....

Thanks again.

I'm 99% sure the mechanisms are different, apart from the obvious(manual/lecky), but have a look at teeth pitch etc, and about motor mounting.
tbh the mechs don't give problems, even when 20+ years old and looking grotty they work perfect, they don't usually wear at all, any lecky mech will do from a sierra(4 door) doesn't have to be cossie, as "cossie" ones are ghia anyway!!
