the other day looked in header tank to check water level and there was none in there just load of rusty colour sludge down at the bottomso took off tank cleaned out the crap with a preasure washer then took top & bottom hose of the radiator off and ran a hose threw rad to clean out the crap that was in there pured out with brown water 1st of all then cleared to clean water running through it.Once that was done i connected everything up filled up with water and anti freeze ran the car for a good while to let the fans kick in but nothing happened temp rose to near the top and water boilded up and spilled out top of header tank

anyone got any idears why this happened and what the problem could be ? fans dont kick in anymore!

 

Have you knocked the wires to the thermo switch on the rad ?

could be the sender on the rad
i would try that first
check there is power there

you also need to find out where the water went in the first place
can you do a pressure check

shouldn haver lost the water
check all the hoses are tight

check for drips and leaks when its running

 

do a pressure test on it mate see where the water went to in the first place, and also check the fan switch on the rad,

the fact it boiled over after u filled it back up is most likly that it had a air lock in the water system,

 

Yes I do if you still have the OE wiring! The fan loom was substandard when new and it's actually a suprise if they do work! The fans stay on for to long as well thanks to the massive span of the switch (Although you can uprate) on the standard setup and this ends up melting a fuse, so check your fuse box, this is a common problem!

There are plenty of guides on here with diagrams etc for rewiring the fans if you do a search, you can either buy ready made looms or make one up yourself, the fuel pump suffers from wiring problems as well where the wiring is old it has built up resistance hence the pump cannot get the power it needs, worse case scenario you can end up with a meltdown!

It's very rare for the rad switch to be the problem, if the fuse etc is good, then remove the connector of the rad switch and bridge the two terminals using a piece of wire do this with the ignition ON as IIRC the fans are ignition controlled, if the fans run then the fault is the switch but like I say almost certainly the fuse.

All of the above I am assuming you haven't already rewired!

i had the fan fault a few weeks ago it was a broken wire on the drivers inner wing
but i would also check the above

 

Another thing I personally had was the wire break from the connector itself.

sure you don;t have an air lock in the cooling system?

 

The first thing i would be checking is the fuse. It will look all melted.

 

new thermostat i would go for mate!
