if you engine management light has come on, u will need to get it connected to a diagnostic computer to get the fault code to find out what the problem is (or a bluefin can tell you if you have one)

If your EM (Engine Management) light is on, I would get it to a Ford main dealer or loacal reputable garage ASAP for a diagnostic test

An engine sensor has clearly picked up a problem that requires attention ASAP.
You shouldn't continue to drive it as normal. if you do, you might make the problem/damage worse

What could be wrong?

This could be something relatively easy/inexpensive to sort, such as a failed coil pack, at worse/most expensive, a failed catalytic converter.

or anything in between, the above is just to make you aware of the vast array of issues that make the EM light come on.

Hope this helps

Andy

Disconnect the negative lead off the battery for 10 mins to clear the fault, then see if the light returns. If it does then take it to a garage for a code scan.

Or use the instrument self diag test and see if it lists a dtc on the dash, saves going to ford.

This will only show dash related dtc's, not engine dtc's.

Are the cooling fans on? If severe enough the fans will be on, if not it may just be a loose connection or a sender is giving a reading which is above or below a threshold.

As said D/C the battery for 10 mins BUT be sure you have the radio code to hand before doing so.

If the light illuminates again it means the fault is still there.

If the fault is bad enough you will know about it as you will be running LOS (Limp home mode) and so will have noticed it on the performance of the car if not it can't be that bad.

One of my focus' has just developed a missfire ( zetec petrol 100k + miles) , after a quick poke around ive discovered that ive no spark to number 1 spark lead, tested the lead and its fine.

So looks like itll be the coil pack then?

Any other suggestions?

But what about the plug?

Strong indication with the coil pack is if it gets worse as the car gets hotter as they break down under heat.

The plug looks fine , tho the misfire does get slighly worse when it gets warmer , plus the CAT stinks like hell!
