I have a 4.0 l mk2 version which is gas converted and it's generally a good truck.the 2.5td is wank tbh,old Granada engine, slow, gutless pretty untuneable as well.I believe later models use different engine but as your on a 2000my it could be the old model.their shit on derv as well.
However,do NOT get a non LPG petrol,17mpg at best and don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise,I've ran mine in all conditions and that's the best you'll get.although hammering it makes no real difference(??).
Very good offroad, especially in lowrange.they operate as 2wd all the time unless it gets slippy.they drift well too!!!mine lights up the inside wheel easily on a corner, wet or dry!!
Their very reliable engine/box wise but I did find everything else fell to bits on it.the switches are shit, seat motors crap, seats wear really quick(mines only done 94k).there's a poxy computer up by the rear view mirror that tells you anything and everything that's wrong, but it beeps like fuck on stupid faults like seat out of position etc, pisses you right off.
You should on the later models like mine get two fobs and two keys of different colours.why you may ask?well, one for you and your seat settings and one for the missus and hers.
Their very comfy to drive, quite lazy really.don't hang about either, really good on the motorway, sit at 80/90 all day, better than my merc ml.
The earlier ones handle appallingly, like bambi on ice, loads of body roll, screeching tyres, typical American wank.the later model like mine was much improved (I think merc took over them at this point) it handles ok,still a touch wallowy but fine
Steering is Stephen hawking light but not too vague and the aircon/heaters are excellent.
For the money their good motors but their a million miles away from anything German built, maybe even worse than landrover discos but they do seem to plod on
New parts are ridiculous, dealer servicing will require remortgaging but there's loads being broken so spares are in abundance.I bought mine side ended and got the two doors, pillar,b post, partial floor from a fire damaged one for £250.it was written off for a £5600 repair!!!
Pricewise,£2000 upwards for a newer shape model, avoid v8's unless you want single figure economy but they do have a lovely sound!!!newer 3.1tds are a nice motor but only 25mpg at best.at least with the lpg you get about 28/30mpg equivalent, apparently there's places if you have an account do it for 50p a litre which then gives you 35/38 mpg equivalent.
Their a big motor so you don't really notice the difference on LPG.
Overall, recommended if the price is right but test everything, especially the 4wd system in low range,if that's fucked so are you.
