hi mate
dunno if this helps but i have a friend who converted his 1.8 diesel sierra to run a 1.6 cvh out of an old escort so it is definatly possible just a case of the plumbing and wiring

the type 9 sierra box can take about 200bhp so would be fine id imagine. could u not just put the turbo head, manifolds and turbo on? how strong is the 1.8 bottom end + what sorta cam etc?

but if your on a budget and want a cosworth.... why not just put a cosworth in it?
a 24v that is must be cheaper than a CVH turbo
