Default Aerocatches....

anyone else got these fitted?

shortly after i fitted mine to the bonnet of the 3dr it became a right pain in the arse to close the pins down, they just stopped sliding over for some reason so you had to pull the springs and knock them a few times before they would go...

anyway, last night doing the usual process, the fucking things broke. i dont know if its because its cold out now and they have gone a bit brittle, but both sides went last night!

i do have another pair of locking ones that i was going to fit to the boot, but never worked out where to put them, and now got an electric boot pop on there. but the only thing is they are riveted to the bonnet

NOTHING ever goes right with that damn car!

they told me to regrease mine then get back to them so i recon they might if you argue enough as they cost fuck all to make as is the unbushed plastic that wears causing the cam system to fold back and lock so you cant close, happened to a mate of mine, happened to mine and i posted about it a few weeks ago and had LOADS of people tell me it was MY fault as they are all fine and i must not of greased them or i done something to make them fail in a typical passionford responce unless they wanna eat your shit and lick your arse,,,,,, as then im sure they would have made a nice powerpoint document to send to the company on my behalf with CAD drawings and a animated film to explain how it happens

speak to the supplyers and tell them, explain looking on the net you have noticed its a comon problem and be POLITE with them and see what they say

im the same, i got a seibon carbon bonnet that i have cut out for bonnet pins

There was a thread about these a few weeks back, I believe Luke has them fitted to his Fiesta and did post something to rectify the problem? Not too sure though...

I have fitted a pair of these to my kit cars bonnet, got another pair to fit when i can be arsed, hope they don't go wrong because they're bonded to the bonnet instead of bolted!

Get in touch with Aerocatch and see what they have to say, even if it's just to satisfy your curiosity, you may well end up with an appology and a new set of catches!

there proper shit Dan we used to fit the them to all the race cars at one time the ended up getting new bonnets to convert to the pin type catch .The only way to get them to last is pack them with grease then open and shut the catch loads of times to work it in

Where did you get them. The FAKE ones come in a gen areo catch packet but dont have a split pin so rust and snappp.

What's the split pin for? I've not seen Aerocatch fasteners with a split pin.

Ive got 6 of these bad boys, they work fine as long as you lube them with a little bit of WD40, overwise they are a total pain in the arse!!!

did i? they must be the non locking ones then as i still have the other set of those.

they are gen aerocatch ones aswell.

they broke on the plastic bit that hold the pin of the lever bar, so the lever bars are now swinging in the wind.

will try and get a pic at some point maybe.

ill admit tho that i have NEVER lubed them, as it doesnt say to

The trouble with WD40 is the solvent in it tends to wash out any grease and then the oil attracts dirt which wears the mechanism. Try using a dry ptfe spray, this lubes without attracting dirt. My aerocatches have been perfect since being lubed with ptfe, i had the same problem as most have of the catches locking/jamming up.

this is a 65k seat cup car brand new out of the factory now you would think it would have the best catches fitted for use and reliability wouldn't you

GT85 is ok, but washes off easily, and like wd40, attracts dust.
