depends what power you want to run mate...

anything upto around 280/300bhp and a cts stage2+ or a jamsport big bearing box will do ... anything above and i would put a mtx75 in it and the best place to look is www.oddkiddcreations.co.uk as on there somewhere is a guide on how to do it...

A few people do the shafts, there are a couple of ways of doing them, get a few prices.

don't waste your money on any box but an mtx as the torque from a zvh will kill a bc box if used on regular basis and in the long run once it's done then you have peace of mind. the easiest way to do it is standard focus mtx with welded drive shafts to get you up and running then over time get hold of a atb for it and some dave mac shafts then it'll be almost indestructable

if the bc/ib5 could be made bullet proof why did ford not modify it for the mondeo and bigger engined foci? they used a bigger, stronger gearbox based on the sierra mt75, the mtx 75. Much better solution IMO

with yours being the zetec bottom end, you could usr the focus/mondeo jobbie starters are on the back, early rs2k boxes have the starter on the front

if yu go for a mk1 focus rs mtx75 box then it will already have the atb diff so you'll only have to sort out the shafts once its in.

I suppose a new atb is about the same as a rs gearbox
Is there any1 offering off the shelf drive shafts

i think project rs said Dave Mac does the shafts.

dont forget though that the focus uses an intermediate suport bearing on the drif=vers side shaft that has a bracket bolted to the block. on the rs the bearing is a little smaller and utilises a different bracket as i think the oil cooler stuff or something gets in the way otherwise.

And the gear linkage, and the mounts, and the speedo drive, clutch, flywheel. but a good strong mod.

the ratios are wank the standard flywheel is duel mass

a good clutch and flywheel costs Ł600

no diff Ł500 for an atb diff

electronic speedo drive Ł200 for a good speedo

still need shaftsand the gearchange hits the servo so ideally u need a pedal box

mtx ftw imo

my first mtx75 conversion cost less than Ł100, gearbox was Ł30 with the shafts, did all the mods and fab work myself. bought a few things like new cv boots and gear oil etc. My second mtx conversion cost the same plus 450 for a new atb diff (frs boxes where hard to find at the time)

its worth noteing that the frs box needs an electronic speedo aswell so may be cheeper to buy an older type mtx75 with mechanical drive and buy a diff as an old type box can be had for about 50

500 for a diff

frs boxes are about 500 anyway so you save 200 for the speedo and have a brand new diff and all the arsing about with electronic speedos

you dont need to go into the gears at all, just break the casings, the diff falls out, change the crown wheel and bearings, place it back in and put the casings back together

thats what i meant by "once in" as you have to do all that anyway for an mtx75.
my point was purly to get a box with a decent diff in as it will cost more to buy a standard box and a new diff and then you still have to pull the box apart to fit it. this is of course asuming you want the atb diff rather than any other.

yeah mate, but starter is at the back. think speedo is electronic. MK5/6 td escort is the box to have rod shift, taller ratios, starter at the front, and the shafts are one piece and can be re splined to fit the outer cvs of the mk3/4

thats a good idea, sounds cheaper and easier than my rs box idea.

im on a zvh so i thought it didnt matter where the starter was front or back
if i do get a cheap box with a electric speedo is it just a case of getting a mechanical drive unit off one of the older boxs
