Failed MOT..springs
As above failed with a snapped front spring (can't say i noticed
) I know they're koni's but not sure on range/model etc until I look proper.
Will i need koni springs or will others fit the same platform.? I know springs are tuned to dampers etc..but does it really matter unless you track it.?

Other springs should fit fine but expect a change in ride height, some manufacturers 30mm springs can be LOADS different to other 30mm springs. You'll ideally want to change both sides at the same time too.
Yea..havin a scout around now. Probably put a full set on..AVO seem the only set on eblag at standard height.
What can you get away with, dropwise, wheels are 17's..215/40's on the back.?
The wheels do fill the arches at the mo so I'd guess it's 30 or 40mm now.?

The avo std ride height in truth drop around 3/4 " as I've used these myself, excellent spring, don't go stupid low imo, I'm on coilovers set at std height minus around 1" rear, 2" front,(higher rear works better).
A lot like the ahmed bayjoo springs, again excellent springs, prefer the avo myself, my dad has a old set of my avo on his 4i that I bought around 10 years ago!!
Spring breakage is very common on cars in general these days, caused by the lower level of sulphur in the metal mix for emissions reasons they don't flex as well as they used to.
For safety reasons ONLY change complete car set, ie all 4 springs.

It's very straightforward, but a better way I think for most and quicker as well, is to use a pull type slave cylinder using the oe cable support hole on the bell housing as the support, no messing with welding lugs etc then, there are defo enough decent attachment points to be able to do it using the regular push cylinder, making and shaping the metal work for the support bracket as you go, I would have done this, but it would just be a lot of work for someone to then copy and sell commercially, so I didn't bother, I also didn't bother with a reyland converted bell housing as I think they(ones I've seen) look VERY inadeqaute and weak(imo), I know my one is ott by a long way the milled boss welded to the bell housing, but the car would snap before this broke!!
