Default driveshaft removal

how do you remove the drive shafts off a s2? just undo them from the hub and give it a tug at the gearbox end?

don't pull on the shaft as you'll seperate the tripod joint.

only ever done drive shafts on my 2l focus but so dont know how similar it is to a s2 but my drivers side haft is held in the box bu the drive shaft bearing support so once thats off it slides out easy. my passenger sade shaft has a spring clip (cant remember exactly what its called) in a groove on the splines so requires some force to get it out. i had to stick a long flat screw driver through the box and whack it with a big hammer. on a s2 you have an lsd so there shoulnt be anthing in the diff that gests in the way either!!

and yes you have to take the shafts out the hubs first.

i hope some of this is helpfull to you.

ps. to get my passenger shaft back in i located the splines, compressed the shaft and then 'tapped' the end with a rubber mallet and then pushed it home till i felt and heard it click into place. then i put the drivers side shaft in.

thats what my haynes said but in the focus with an mtx75 box there is no room to get anything beefy enough in there to leaver it and i dont have a slide hammer going through the diff was piss easy for me.

oh yeah, drain the box oil first

I popped a shaft out of my XR3i at the weekend to do the oil seal. What a pain in the arse! Usually you can pop the track rod end out, pop the bottom ball joint out and then the shaft will come out with a bit of persuasion from a crowbar between the shaft and the 'box. Mine wouldn't play ball and I ended up removing the gearbox cradle to get the correct angle to get a 1" chisel between them, then it popped out nice and easy with a little tap, damn thing!!

I didn't have any trouble with oil spilling out though..... There wasn't any left in there
