Default For anyone who's run in a Newman cam

How did you run it in? I was told by Newman not to run it in as such, just take it for a drive as I normally would for 30 mins and not to rev the nuts off it, but not to let it idle too long if possible.

Thing is, my cars not taxed, MOT'd or insured so can't do this. Had anyone ran one in off the road? I was just going to sit in the garage and "pretend I was driving" Will it be ok to run it up to 3k for 20 mins like normal? It's been fitted properly and absolutely coated in thick red camlube. I'll also be filling it with oil right before I start it for the first time so will pour the oil all over the cam and head.

Or just drive it round and round in circles around the yard TBH where the car is it all just long country roads, I'd never get pulled over, but not worth the risk really.

Hmmm thing is it's a new build so don't want to drive it 1/2 mile down the road and something be wrong with it. I want to get it started in the barn and make sure there no oil and water leaks, it's fueling correctly etc before taking it out on the road. I'll give Newman a ring I think.

Yeah you should not let it idle, thats the important thing, the cam is a lot less stress free at 3k than jumping about at idle, plus the oil pressure is higher. Kent recomend a static running in procedure, cant remember the exact sequence, but it was like "hold at 2000 for five mins, 3000 for another five, then 2000 again, then another similar sequence, never stopping the engine or letting it idle. TBH im not sure its all entirely nesesary as im sure ford never ran in thier stuff.

Just run between 2000-3000rpm for 20 minutes, when switching off allow engine to return to idle and turn off right away.
The problem is the nose loading on the lobe, idle is the worst for this so must be avoided.

when i done mine i had it at 2500rpm for 10 mins then 3000rpm fo another 10. so as above. everyone says different. some people say go for a gentle drive for 20-30mins not going over 3000rpm and others say run for 20 mins at 3000rpm on the spot. so really both ways work correctly (i've done both in the past). but like said above ring newman as its their cam im sure their give you the advice needed.
