do you actually learn anything from it or is it just a way of paying £40 extra to not have 3 points ?

just been asked the question and hope you lovely lot can help ... my thoughts are its just a way to avoid the points and pay more ..

 

they show you some crashes and make you sit in a classroom

so it's just like detention

 

Wish they'd give me the option for more money and no points when I got done on the motorway in May my first points in 11 years i've have paided £200 extra and a day out of my life for no points.

I did one about a month ago. Actually really enjoyed it but yes i did it becasue i didnt want the points. The course was £61.50 and the fine was £60.00 so it only cost £1.50 more so worth doing.

 

Some see it as just crap talk about the highway code but these are usually the ones in dire need of driving lessons..

 

was two days when i did mine lots of classroom style boring shit with horror stories thrown in then rest of it out driving on and off motorway doing hazard perception etc

was boring if you ask me i was youngest there so was instantly branded as a boy racer even tho i was in a 1.3 mk4 escort van lol!

then some old dear on the course wrote off one of the instructors cars on the driving bit which i found quite amusing i bet she had her license took away and burned lol

 

Yes I did one about 3 years ago, it was ok but like many have said its just a way of avoiding the points.

 

i did one about 2 months ago-only did it to avoid the points.
4 hours in a classroom with a load of strangers!!! was surprisingly interesting and does make you think just how dangerous the road is and how easy it is to be in an accident.it went quite quick.i think it should be compulsary every 5 years,just to keep you thinking.......although i drove straight out onto a 30 mph road and did 45 mph!!!

 

so you learnt how to not get caught then? bonus

How do you get offered the course? Like I said earlier I didn't it was just pay the fine and get the points!
Can't I just go on one one now and have my points removed?

I didn't learn anything. But have done similar things on driver training previously.

I was typically cocky and upset them when they asked what you would change about your driving as i replied "I know you don't wanna hear it, but i will be honest. I don't think i will change a thing"

Worth doing and you may get something from it. If not, you avoid points, soooo win!

 

Did one two months ago, AA drivetech. Course was ok but the real entertainment was some of the muppets in the same room, half of them didnt know what a dual carriageway was!! These people have licences!! If there is any incentive to slow down a bit its these turkeys ambling around on our roads its pure plain scary...

The course certainly opened my eyes and changed my opinion on speed cameras, I found it quite informative on that front.

 

Mate I assume there is an upper limit on each offence, my speed was 35 in a 30 and the highest in the room was 37. There were a few 44s in a 40 but you get the picture. how fast were you going?

 

Undercover Car allegedly clocked me at 97mph (in my 1.6 Bora) he said he would book me for doing 95mph as this would mean I didn't have to go to court. He was all very nice about it and said I'd done well to go 11 years without an points didn't even give me a bolocking for the speed!
I still contest my Bora could go that quick as at 70mph in 5th i'm already at 4000rpm!

i have done 3 of them and tbh the last one was a good class, iv been driving 10 years now and could have done with the pointers, we spent the afternoon in a practicle having our driving observed and pointers given which i remembered a lot and jogged my memory about driving manners and attitudes

Did one when I was 18, got caught doing 36 in a 30 so was legible for it and of course I hadn't had my license long. Was 3/4 hours of classroom stuff which to be honest I quite enjoyed, I used was as an example of a boy racer as most of the others in the room were 40+. Best part of it was when I left the car park after and followed out a woman in her Range Rover who was sat next me during the class, she clearly didn't give a shit at all as within 10 seconds of leaving the car park so overtook a slow car on a pedestrian crossing and left me in her smoke, I had to laugh
