Default Is a 2.0 Zetec flywheel physically bigger than a 1.8 item?

I know that 2.0 flyheels don't fit inside BC/IB5 bellhousings, but is that due to the curveture of the bell housing?

I also know the 2.0 takes a 240mm clutch where as the 1.8 takes a 220mm clutch but are the flyheels the same size and the clutch area bigger?

As otherwise why do the same starter motors work on both flywheels? Surely they wouldn't reach etc...

because the bell housing is bigger on the mtx75 box, putting the starter further out, yes the flywheels are phsyicaly bigger mate.

The 2.0 flywheel is thicker and protrudes more in to the bellhousing and hits the inner diff casing on the B5. Also the clutch sits deeper into the flywheel but the diameter and ring gear etc. is the same

Just found the answer is they are the same size, just the 1.8 tapers heavily.

Thanks for the replies to confirm though!

the pressure plate goes right to the edge of the 2 litre one, where as you say the 1.8 one tapers then the cover starts. Would be a brill upgrade if you could make it fit an ib5/bc box, but why bother when the gearbox cant take the torque from a normal clutch. A more elegant and longlasting conversion is to fit the mtx75 box the flywheel is designed for.

As you say there would be no beneifit to fitting a 240mm clutch in the BC housing; it's the boxes that are shite!

MTX conversion is great and it's what I'm running with the 240mm flywheel and Focus RS/Cossie hybrid clutch
