Default Thinking f buying a S2

As above I'm looking to get another s2 it's been about 5 years since I've owned one or even messed with one. Since then to now I've noticed there are alot more zvh ones about but not knowing much about them, I'm abit reluctant in owning one. So was after abit of advice am I better sticking with the standard cvh which I know a Little about or going for a zvh.

Also if anyone knows of a decent one for sale id be interested. Not really after a mint one as id like to have a mess my self and make it my own but the same time not really after a dog.

Cheers Andy

whatever you do dont buy this one - it most definately appears to be an XR3i with ZVH conversion.

I have a 2.1 ZVH - had 4 years and never missed a beat - perfectly fine as long as you look after it really.

I don't think it really matters what you go for engine wise, just make sure its been done properly, if you want a good one budget for 2500-3000, at this money you will still need to get your hands dirty. If you find one with efi thats a really good start, better than buying one with a zvh etc.

Minters go for 4k and up these days, shit goes for a grand. Have a good look for rust, places to check include:

Battery tray
Sun roof
Arches
Bumper mounts
Sills (lift up the carpets if you can)
Seat belt mounts
boot floor to body seam (around the chassis leg) often hidden by the boot trim
The scuttle panel
The slam panel and panel behind the front bumper is prone to rust partucularly the wing to slam panel joint.
Rear panel under the boot seal rubber (pull it off in the middle and have a look)
Front foot wells.
Chassis legs.

The best of the best will be low mileage garaged examples, i was lucky and found one with a patch in the foot well and a scabby rear sill but nothing else for 2k, but that was chav tastic with a shitty engine lol, if you can find one that has been restored in the past then buy it!

The engine really is the least of your worries because parts are cheap and the cvh is agricultural enough to be an easy diy rebuild,

Gearboxes are also a weak link, but again cheap to replace or upgrade.

If i were to buy another, i would definitely be spending 4-6K in a fully restored example, values are going up and this IMO is probably the best way of finding a keeper.

Best of luck!

100% correct m8 it was re-shelled into an xr3i shell but it has the identity and tags off a series 2
