A neighbours kid locked her keys in her car.

Any ideas for getting in other than smashing the glass? It's a focus estate but i believe the back doors are the same as on a hatch.

Rear window glass from scrappy is only £14 so i was going to get that for her.

How easy to fit? Bearing in mind i'm not the most mechanical/patient

 

on most estate models nowadays its a bonded bit of glass which needs a pro with correct adhesive to refit, far easier to pop the front side window as they are easy to replace and no special tools are needed ,just a clean up afterwards

 

I think he meant the rear passenger door window,their not too hard to replace,there's a pin you either pop or drill out to actually get the glass out but it's a bit of a stripdown to get at it,better than the front door though as there's a load of work to strip them down,especially for someone with little patience!!!!

 

All the door windows are about the same ,fronts are easier ,

 

You can actually open the tailgate and gain access, it's not easy but will save the windows, not going to go into detail on here for obvious reasons, PM me if you want.

Glass bought, old one taped then drilled until the smash and now struggling to get the new cunting window back in.

Help before this new glass gets lobbed

pps marty i even asked a ford mechanic mate if there were tips of the trade and he said no

 

If (by some miracle) the bonnet is open to the first click then you can get in that way as I've done it. Internet rumours speak of going in through the rear brake light as well but I've never known anybody actually do it.

Smashy smashy glass is unfortunately the easiest way to get into a fully locked Focus hence why the pikeys always go in that way

 

What are you stuck on?

I've done a hatch and would assume the estate is the same;

Doorcard and weather seal off obviously.

Wind window down about 1/3 of the way until you can see the white plastic peg through the hole in the regulator strut (an oblong hole)

Push the centre of the peg out then push out the outer bit (the outer bit is about the sze of a polo mint.

Lower the regulator all the way and wriggle the glass out of the holder.

Pull the rubber liners / guides out of the window frame

Wiggle the glass out of the frame.

Refit is a reverse Ha hah ha hah hah

 

Pretty bang on that,not sure if the window runner is attached to the door lock mech or even riveted below?chop,if you get desperate mate,I've got a focus estate rear door in my garage,I could strip it down and send u some photos or ideas on how I got it out?

 

Guys cheers for the advice but i gave up. I wasnt sure exactly how to get it in or locate the pin in the glass.

I took it to a glass place who did it for £10

Basically the pin had to go in the glass before putting it in the door. Then when put into the door it had to kinda click into place. Sorted though

 

I've seen it done before, putting a live to one of the wires in the loom behind the 3rd brake light will pop the boot open. Only works on pre-facelifts apparantely.

 

Can't really fault that for a £10!!!yes,it's like a trim pin,there's an outer piece as described above like a polo mint which locates in the hole in the glass then that lines with the carrier and you pop the middle bit in to secure the glass,it's not TOO bad,but well worth a £10!!!!

 

Or do I as I told you ages ago, and use a key from another focus. It's much easier than taking the light out once you know which way to put it in. In this case, Lambchop could have used his RS key to open her car. Assuming he still has it. (Bizzare but true).

you can also force the front window down, we had to do this in le mans a couple of years back as my mate locked his keys in the boot

 

This one piece of information just saved me 4 hours of sweat and tears trying to get that Nylon pin back in. I did the right rear window last year and tried to fit the pin with the glass and regulator in the door. Its almost impossible but I managed to bodge it in the end. I just did the left rear window after reading this. Piece of cake. Thank YOU!!
