YB flooding...
hey, I'm at loss and in serious need of some fresh ideas. I'm from vancouver canada and I have a YB swapped XR4TI. Got it running a few weeks back but have been plauged with a missfire/bucking thing at about 3000rpm and 1500rpm.. it also keeps failing air care running to rich. so I figured I would install an inovate LC1 wideband to see what was going on. please keep in mind the LC1 is fully stand alone.
got it all in started up the car..and now this (see vid)... the LC1 shouldn;t cause this as its not hooked into anything in the car save for switch power. I dont; really have access to parts to swittch out and try and there is pretty much nobody within 6 hours drivign time that even knows what a YB is. any ideas?

I had identical symptoms (based on vid) and I traced that to the blue temp sensor multiplug, one of the plugs pins had some how come adrift. Pushed it back in and all's been perfect (for a ford) for the last 2k miles. If you find no fault with the wiring, I'd just replace the sensor. Tbh it may be worth your while just buying a sensor kit if none of them have been change for some time.
How "fine" was it running prior to this ?
I notice you are using a after market fuel pressure regulator, what make is it, and are you running the correct pressure, is it fluctuating ?
A few things to check,
first unless new put in a new coolant temp sensor, blue one side of head at rear drivers side, check plug for it, check phase alignment if not correct it will over fuel dramatically, the scribe mark on the dizzy lip where the cap sits must be perfectly in line to fall dead centre in the "path" projected by the rotor arm, even 1 tooth out is big trouble.
Check the fuel pressure with vac pipe on and running needs to be 3 bar, rising to around 3.6 with vac pipe removed and plugged.
What plug gaps are you using ?, adjust to 0.6mm, if the plugs have become wet at all with petrol they need binning they never will be right.
Is your map sensor up the right way ?, seen it before where they get killed as to look right they are wrong, the plug on it should be down facing as of course will be the vac pipe this must face downwards with a drop in the vac line of around 3-4 inches minimum prior to plugging on the map sensor.
Whilst at it it would be good sense to do the air temp sensor as well.
Are you on a L1 ecu ?, what chip is it, is it right for the spec of the other parts ?, could even be a std chip where someone used a 3 bar sensor for example.

according to bigturbo.co.uk I have a lvl 6 ecu, I HAD a PH09 tps but swapped that PF01.
the chip says stage one... but its a little piece of paper with stage one written in pen. FP is set to 45psi.. so thats what.. 15 psi = bar so 3 bar?
I can't really swap out sensors very easily because I can't get the parts in Canada. I'd have to order them out of the uk and I have no clue where to even start looking. I just happened to get lucky with the tps that some 1 in seattle had one.
I will check those connections today and see what happens.
I'll keep you guys posted. thanks!

Yes that's defo a L6 ecu, can't get the bits in canada ?, there is a cossie specialist in canada that does nothing but YB engines and cossies.
What about [url]www.northamericancosworthspecialists.com ?.
If buying from the uk I would suggest Matt Lewis Motorsport, if having any probs pm me and I'll post the bits to you, unless you are anywhere near a USAF base ?

awsome! I really appreciate it guys!
Went out in the rain to have another look under the hood today, found a loose terminal in the MAP plug. Still not running right though. I can at least rev it up but I am pretty sure the plugs are fouled. Going to replace those and try agian.

Hi Guys, Just FYI that North American Cosworth Specialists in North Vancouver are gone. If any one knows a Cossie specialist in Vanc please post info.
I have a Saph with a Stage 3 YB in Vancouver area, it runs ROCK SOLID, maybe I can look/help, I have a fair amount of experience (sic) NOW.

Great a few more cossie guys in North America... I'm in the North East US, my old 4x4 3dr is floating around up there somewhere.
I've been to BC a few times, and even drove (3200miles) cross country back from there.
Tie, I also have some, actually all the sensors and a may be able to get another l6 ECU you can try if your's is suspect.
Wes
BTW I just noticed you're running an aftermarket fuel regulator, what's the pressure set to?

well, bits myself and thebronze worked on my car a bit yesterday. found some odd stuff going on with the vac lines.. also seems my car is only boosting 5PSI (sorry not sure what that is in BAR?). can;t seem to figure out why though, stage one should boost more then 5 right?
also went for a spin in bit's stage 3 saph... I want stage 3....

Hi matey,
I've got the same problem here in Italy mate, all the cossies have vaporised..,along with the spares.
I get around this by using the sensors off various Fiats and Lancias, the sensors are all identical, you'd need a Lancia delta, fiat tipo etc but i don't know if they were ever imported into Canada.
1 thing i strongly advise you to do is use the coolant temp. sensor fitted to the '90's Vw corrado/passat 2.016v twin-cam engine with the 9A engine code,it's made by Bosch and is miles more reliable than the Marelli original version fitted to the cos.engine.
If you need any sensors just let me know and i'll post them off,i've got loads.

Is that with or without vacuum going to the regulator? Boost could be limited by a vacuum leak, map sensor or bad actuator.
Stage 3 is a lot of fun...
That's good to know... the Corrado came here in either G60 supercharged version or later on VR6, so it's probably Jetta/Passat, although the Jetta lost the 2.0 16v option after '92.

gapped to 006 I think? I forget already.. bit just gapped them yesterday to spec.
No I have no spare parts and no way to easily swap them. Though I am kind of wondering if my map is bad... are there any cross over parts for th emap? bosche or something maybe?

Hi,yes, def. the 9A 16v version and the jetta is no good as it's probably the older 8v single cam engine with digifart injection.
I did use the sensor off the KR engine fitted with the old mechanical injection but the thread is much bigger than the 9A or Weber sensor so it means buggerin about modifing the thread on the cyl head, both versions work perfectly and no more black smoke and buggered plugs.
I've got both Marelli and Bosch versions fitted onto my car's cyl. head and last week, whilst out trying the car,i switched the harness plug to the Weber pos sensor and yep,car chugged to a halt with black smoke, swapped the harness plug over to the Bosch sensor-perfect..

Did you ever get those old heaps like '85 onwards Maserati 222 bi-turbos imported to Canada?,the MAP sensors are identical, injectors, sensors, idle valves,TPS etc.
Loads over here in Rome mate.
