whats the craic?

seems alot of car for the money, i know they are similar to the probe in levels of cool but how are they in the reliabilty stakes, i see there are lots of the 2.5v6 ones for sale, is this a reliable engine?

or are they fundamentaly flawed hence the chepa prices?

have also looked at 406 coupes but i'm put off by their 'frenchness'

i need a winter runaround, auto a preference.

 

They're ok really. Only reason they didn't really take of was the fact that it was basically a Mondeo in a Coupe body rather than any kind of "sports" car, and that it was well overpriced at new for what it was.

The fact that they're dirt cheap now makes the fact that it's just a Mondeo under there a good thing really as it's a measure that they're actually very decent. I'm not a fan of the styling, but if you are then it makes a good buy.

Certainly way better than a Probe.

 

Just a mrk2 mondeo fella

Same V6 as used in the Ghia/ST24s and even the mrk3 mondies Not ST models

Get a metel impellor waterpump upgrade for about Ł45 and about 1 hour to fit it

Check the secondries are opening (power hike) under hard throttle, if not could be clogged with shit or the contol box could be duff IMRC its called

Will be a lot of car for the money now

 

2000 models can be had for a grand which is cheaper than the mondy equivalent.

i remember back in 1999 i went to santa pod in my newly acquired Renault 19 16v. a guy in his mid 30's rocked up next to me in his brand new V6 cougar and proceded to tell me how i didnt have a chance with just 4 cylinders!

he got owned.....!
