Default Is this a bad idea ?

Buying a W221 S600 biturbo for £13k.

Its got fmbsh but still seems a bit cheap for a twin turbo v12 with 600hp.

Bargain or bucket ?

why would you want it though, even at that price. i look at think yea, its alot of car the money but thats no reason to put £13,000 on it. plus parts on that would be through the roof. you'd soon burn through another 13k im sure

I love the idea of owning something like this. I think the reality of running a car like this would be totally different though.

Cheers,

Repair bills we be conducive with what the car cost originally, not the £13k you pay for it, so it is possible that something could go wrong with that car costing more than you paid. For example a transmission failure that is not entirely unheard of with those and can run into 5 figures.

I know SOME of the costs. Suspension is 1k per corner, gearbox is 10k but bulletproof unless you fit one of those tuning boxes that alters the drive by wire signal to make it more responsive (fail).

But a car that will seat 4 adults in comfort, has massage seats and every gadget you can think of, one of the best auto gearboxes in the world and 600hp with 750lb/ft, does 0-60 in 4 seconds and will do near 210mph greatly appeals to me.

That's a single figure economy job,I'd guess no more than 12 on a run so that goes a long way to explaining the massive depreciation, but still a monstrous car for the money.

If you think about it guys,it's not a bad price to buy it,use the running gear in something else and break the rest, you could probably get 4-5 k back for panels, lights, interior etc. And then have a nice, pretty bombproof rwd car,say a Capri/mk2 escort for about 6k,surely to build a cos motor up to 600 horse would cost more than 6k?

As someone posted here before in another thread. I'd be buying a V10 diesel Phaeton before I'd even consider that.
