Default help taking a motion picture please

as above, i have a sony a300, its only a simple dslr, ive been fiddling for ages but cant seem to take a picture of something moving at speed, example a passing car.

can someone help?

I Dont know how that particular camera works. If you want the camera stationary then you need a fast shutter speed to remove all chances of motion blur.

But a method for passing cars is to follow with a smooth sweeping motion whilst trying to focus on one part of the car.
The key is to remember to keep the camera following the car even after you have pushed the button.
