Default 4x4 Cossie Gearbox rebuild??

right, i have got the box out of the cossie and i have been told that it needs 2nd and 3rd gears, synchros and the couplings fucked, says its going to be 350 to fix it.

My question is, would it be worth my time to get a decent set of internals put in, the cars running 383bhp just now but moneys getting a bit tight, in fact its getting really tight! Building cars aint cheap! Can anyone recomend decent internals, rough costs and what is included, i dont know what i am looking for......i take it he means the centre diff is the coupling, i know the diffs knackered after seeing it on the rollers

Speak to Pete Doughty on 0115 926 2073 as he built the straight cut 4x4 box in my Escort Cos Tell him Steve Fletcher sent ya. Its about Ł1800+VAT for the box.

unforunately there are no 'cheap' gearsets available, might be worth rebuilding it to original spec, or just finding a replacement if money is tight? at that power though, its like a time bomb. have you ever considered going 2wd? saves some of the 'if i put my foot down, i may hear a loud grinding noise' worry!

Ł350 is a good price for a rebuild as the parts will come to a few quid on their own

at the power level you want to run, as people said its a timebomb on standard box.

if moneys tight you might be better off dropping the power a bit.

the diff in the box isn't a "diff", it's a viscous coupling that fails when it gets too hot so you can either get a new one or pump the old one up, apparently cts do them in various forms at varios locked levels but it'll cost half your rebuild costs

don't push it hard until you can either drop the power to more usable levels or can save some pennies

or get a 2wd box

Yeah its a mate of a mate thats pretty handy with them. I know its a good price but thought is it not worth puting that 350 into a stronger box.
