Default fainting......how embarrasing!

felt like a right wuss this morning.

due to my current funny turns im having i had to have some blood tests.ive had them before and sometimes im ok,but can break out in a bit of a sweat as it takes a while as i dont have prominent veins.

well today,i went at 9am,felt fine.sat in chair-usual stuff,look away,dont think about it................
couldnt get vein on left arm, couldnt get vein on right arm,try left again-needle in....missed,try right again-needle in.....missed..........then i just felt my self sweating loads and feeling funny...getting worse and worse and couldnt control it. the poor woman was on her own trying to stop me falling over(im hardly small!!) until a nurse walked in where they helped me onto a bed,got my legs up in the air and aimed a huge fan at me......took a good 10 mins or so before i began to feel better.
they then tried again to get blood but couldnt get a vein again so they gave up,wouldnt let me up for another 10 mins.....

i was so embarrased and have to go back again on friday!!! its a fasting blood test so i cant eat from midnight, but i can drink water-i didnt drink any water this morning so hoping a couple of litres of water may make the difference.

please tell me there is another bloke on here same as me???? the fact that the woman before me had also feinted doesnt make me feel better!

I'm pretty good having blood taken, until they start rooting around for the vein and you can feel it under your skin.... And then I end up feeling a bit sick!

Fingers crossed for Friday then eh!!!

i just end up sitting there watching them do it! even went to give blood a few years back and the needle for that is HUGE compared to that for a blood test!

I was up a&e not so long ago they couldn't get any blood from either of my arms, so she decided to try my hand... even then didn't get much out of me just enough to do the tests but christ did that hurt more than the arms, even so i sat there watching it! lol

am i just weird?!

you may be suffering with panic attacks mate, I do a bit.

Mine happen first thing in the morning if I am going somewhere I have known about, no reason for it, just suddenly feel panicked and need to get out of there. Happens when i am in a situation I dont control, waiting for someone, something etc

Then feel hot and weak like i am going to pass out, then if i get to sit down for a moment, it passes and I am fine.

For embarasment Try standing at check in, in a rammed airport at 6am. Get to the front of the que, sorting my bags and suddenly start to feel bad.

check in girls says 'nervous passenger' , I say, 'Me, nah'

Then promptly turn round and burry my face in the floor lol!! Get up and walk away as quickly as possible with legs like jelly.

Just as bad mate. I go exactly the same.

A lot of people don't understand when you tell them, I usually get the old "what's up with you, it doesn't hurt" from friends.

I used to go the same when I cut myself with glass too, something about the smooth cut would make me go. I've got over the glass thing now but needles, fook no.

I had a root block done a few months back (injections in lower back to kill pain to my sciatic nerve) because of a prolapsed disc. You have to be awake during the procedure as they stick the needle in an take an X-ray, then take it out and repeat until they think it's right. Then surgeon touches the nerve with end of the needle which you have to feel (hence being awake).

I was shitting myself about it and it's my worst nightmare, I ended up in recovery ward like a twat. I looked over to see a young girl who was recovering from a general and felt a right wuss. Any normal person would prob have just been chatting to th nurses during th operation but not me

I've never bad blood taken, but i remember last year I silced my arm open a bit of metal was poking out (like a splinter) It didnt hurt, but my brother saw, and he tried to get the metal out...he was poking on at it. I keeled over.
Hope what ever afflicts you (illness) is put to rest.

Good night and godbless

needles don't bother me at all as long as i don't watch it actually going in, how bad a experience is usually down to the skill of the nurse imo
some of them could not hit the ground with a dart let alone hit a vein

jay dont worry mate your not alone. Few yrs ago i went for one. Went in the room and whilst they were starting i went all faint so they said ok get in this wheel chair and we'll take u to a room with a open window. The look on the peoples faces in the waiting bit outside when they had seen me go in fine then come out in a wheel chair. I bet half of them thought sod this and left lol.

Is it a fasting glucose test they are doing? If so eat a sandwich before midnite and drink plenty of clear fluids thats not just water its tea too but do not put milk or sugar in it. And take something sweet with you for afterwards just to get your blood suger back up quick ie some lucozade and chocolate. As said above get them to lie you down first and this should actually make it abit easier for them to get a needle in you.

Its not nice to pass out and you are not the only one I have men passing out alot when we take bloods and if you do pass out on the bed they can continue looking for the vein while your out

Stuff like that doesn't bother me, used to be a blood doner. The women always used to love it when I came in. I've got quite veiny arms so just used to put my arm out and say "take your pick" lol. But sometimes when it's the mrs "time of the month" she has funny turns and can pass out. In may we were in the Canaries on holiday and we were walking out of the restaurant and I just heard a thud, turned around and she has lying on the floor, I didnt know what to do. As I was picking her up some old bitch walked past us and said "stupid youngsters always pissed on holiday. Look at the state of her"

drink a few glasses of water in the morning, not too many or you'll be pissing like a race horse

when they do the needle thing, tell them that you are scared of needles and they'll try and do something to take your mind off things

Bud i know where your coming from!! i pass out when i have blood tests.

first time i did it wasn't even me having the blood test!!
went to meet my new niece, she was in the special care unit and whilst i was there they stuck a needle in her foot to take some blood, i some how managed to turn away and pass out and up head first into the wall missing 6 incubators!!

then 3 months ago i went out cold in the middle of specsavers!!
had gone in for a first fitting on contacts, had them in a few minutes and like you i started going cold and sweating etc..... as they took them out i went out like a light!!
i remember coming round to some one shouting "medic" and then for the next 30mins i had all the little dolly birds checking on me!!

I fainted once after having a blood test and an xray..... result tho as they checked the chest xray I'd had straight away instead of the usual "go to your doctors in 10 days for the result".....
