Hello,

My 3i wont idle, the engine fires and dies straight away, you cant even rev it.

I have fuel and spark to the engine, have replaced Coil, Dizzy and Ignition module, Fuel metering unit, and time was recently done. I have checked all pipes and cleaned all conections. I have an idea that the problem is located in the throttle housing area. What function does the idle control valve do? and does it fail commonly? Can you test it?

It could be the cold start mate

 

or the fuel pump relay is goosed, sounds like the pump will prime but not run, either that or the wire going to the tachometric relay from the coil has a break in it. Does the pump run on after it cuts out? if you put a normal relay in its place the pump will run with the ig on full time, do this to check if its a pump/relay fault mate. New relays arent dear, its quite a common problem
