I've just got myself a cheap RST and i want to turn it into a track car, the engine is standard bar a chip,-31,zorst,air filter and intercooler. the engine will have to stay like that as money is tight right now, i wasnt to improve performance of the car so i was thinking of putting it on a diet a major one! i've done all the normal things like taking the seats out bar drivers one
carpets, door cards and so on but i want it to be lighter so is there any metal that i can cut away and the car to still be safe? i was thinking spare wheel well and drilling holes in the inside of the doors and removing the lecky windows and fitting plastic windows? any ideas would be great??

Sounds like a bad idea to me mate i'm prepping one for the track as well, witha similar tight budget but i wouldn't start cutting parts of the car away.
Probably best to try to stiffen up the shell and improve handling and braking rather than try to reduce weight by cutting metal away for the benefit you would gain.

you can remove a certain amount of excess metal but this is done once a proper cage has been welded in. things like the inned door skins can be removed but you would want door bars first lol.
bracing on the bonnet is another one. removing eleccy windows and un wanted gadgets is fine.
but seriously though stiffen the shell up first before you go mad with the angle grinder
