Help with layers in Photoshop CS, how do I save them?
Right then, here's my problem, apart from being crap with Photoshop...
I have a batch of photos i want to treat in exactly the same way, the method is as follows (im following a guide in the link below)
http://www.graphics.com/modules.php?...icle&artid=178
1. Duplicate the current layer (Ctrl+J).
2. Apply an Average filter (Filter > Blur > Average).
3. Invert the layer (Ctrl+I).
4. Change the layers' blending mode to Overlay.
5. Add a Photo Filter adjustment layer (Layer > New Adjustment Layer Photo Filter) and apply the following properties:
Filter: Warming Filter (85)
Density: 25-75%
Preserve Luminosity: Checkmarked
6. Use the Shadow/Highlight Tool (Image > Adjustments > Shadow/Highlight) to increase the Highlights.
I'd love to know how I could save the above actions as a layer, so all i have to do is open a new photo with Photoshop and simply apply the pre-made layer/filter (whatever it's called), instead of having to go through each stage individually everytime.
Anybody able to help me?

Will it not just let you drag the layer over onto a new document?
i.e. you have 2 images side by side, drag the layer onto the image you want the layer applying to and pop it in the layer window.

No it doesn't let me do that Rick!
If I have to files open at the same time, when i click between them the available layers change, so the layer I have just created is only available to the photo i originally made it for

You need to record it as an action ben then when you open a new image you apply that action, or to save even more time record the action then do a file>automate>batch and tell it where to open the pictures from what action to apply and where to save them to and it will do the full folder without your intervention. Very easy and works a charm.

Cheers Stephen... that's it sorted
Well sort of anyway, when trying to automate it, it says I have to specify an extension for the output file(s), but there is no place to specify it.
I tried adding .jpg to the final box to save as a jpeg file but that doesnt work.

any advice? am i missing something obvious?
