Can I use coinage from the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man?
United Kingdom Dependent Territories, for example, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Gibraltar have their own legislative and taxation systems and issue their own banknotes and coins. These, in common, with United Kingdom coins bear the portrait the Queen but they are only legal tender within the territory itself.

Bank of England notes are the only banknotes that are legal tender in England and Wales. United Kingdom coinage is legal tender, but not in unlimited amounts for coins below Ł1.
Scottish and Northern Ireland banknotes, and Jersey, Guernsey, Manx and Gibraltar coinage and banknotes are not legal tender in England and Wales.
However, they are not illegal under English law and creditors and traders may accept them if they so choose.

As a Ex shop owner, We never took it. Some places do but if your living in London then fat chances you'll be able to spend it. Can get away with the Pound Coins/50p Coins but anything else NOPE!!!
Odd I know, but if you search up on it, NI money isnt legal on the mainland, although many places will take it.
And yes it is fucking annoying when people refuse to take what is branded as sterling.
I thought Ireland had moved over to Euro ?, I thought Scottish notes were legal so long as they have STERLING written on them, I've certainly spent these before in uk with very little problem.

Northern Ireland is part of the UK, and does us Sterling. It's just that our local banks print their own notes, same as the IOM and Scottish.
But despite this arrangement, it still isnt deemed legal tender on mainland UK ( not sure if Scotland and Wales are treated differently ? )
But it is a right PITA having money branded as sterling, that apparently isnt treated as legal sterling throughout the UK.
