Default Best PETROL/LPG engine to put in smiley face transit recovery truck?

Hi guys/dolls as per title really.it's just a thought but I fancied putting a half decent petrol engine into a smiley faced transit for recovery purposes.the reason I thought of this is I'm not a big fan of modern diesels with their pump/injector probs and I've been using LPG for 6 months now and I really like it.

I've currently got a 4x4 and trailer but I'd like to upgrade to a car transporter and I've always had joy with the smiley faced transit so I'd like a few ideas if poss?prefer to keep to around 2.0litre for economy purposes but open to ideas, but please no yb's,bit out of my price range and nit the best economy

well i was thinking 2.9 24v granada cosworth lump until you said 2.0l, nother wrong with the diesel lump in the smiling fronted transits ( apart from being a bit slow ) its just the newer ones that give injector probs but i think its been taken well over the top.

Oh yeah,I love the banana top,it's fucking bullet proof, but a tad slow with a car on the back and living in Wales we have lots of hills!!!

I thought about 2.0 l duratec/blacktop zetec but I'm not sure about the torque side of things.I did consider the v6 24valve from the mondeo but economy wise their not the best!

i have had a few 24v granada cosworth transits and they have bags of power on the hills, i use to tow a car trailer behind mine, and i didn't find a hill that slowed it down ever, and would cruise at a ton with the right trailer, on a private road of cause, stick LPG on one of them and you got a real tool, fitting the 24v is easy if your at all handy with the tools, not difficult, pm me for details if you want to go 24v cosworth

my mate had a firly new ldv petrol that came lpg converted and said it was the best thing he'd ever bought. quite powerful for what it was and retunred the equivelent of about 50 mpg when run on gas. said it was a ford engine to as i know they put the diesels in there from trannies too. might be worth seeing ehat sort of engine in the petrol ldv and try that

Thanks for the suggestions guys,I'm fancying the 24v Cossie idea now,as if I can get 15-20 mpg that's 30odd on gas which would be fine.

Are there many of these about anymore as I'd have thought there weren't that many sold?

Thanks bj928,will do if it comes off,I've got no probs with the spanners or wiring so that should be a nice little challenge!!!
