Default New TV.... LCD/LED/PLASMA?! *GOT ONE!! HELP!!! LOL!!"

Looking to buy a new TV in the near future but undecided about which way to go! Anyone got any thoughts on whats best for general viewing and some gaming?!

Leaning towards LED at the moment and actually got one put aside at Richer Sounds but just want to get some views from you lot first!

Well 50" is way too big for my room, realistically looking at 37" so LED appears to be the way to go!!

Ive had a 37" LG LED put aside at Richer Sounds so will go have a look after work!!

Laugh off Richer sounds - wont be cheapest - try a couple in Ilford (yes they do deliver) PRC direct and RGB direct (will probably find they will do you a deal) - when i have always looked for tv's they have been cheapest in the UK on 4 occassions.

Mmmm well to be honest RS are cheaper than both those places on this particular TV, same as Amazon!! Infact I can get the same TV from RS with the 5 year cover for the same price RGB/amazon are selling it for!

Neil, once you are settled on which one you want, give John Lewis a call and see if you can get them to match RS price. They should do as its how I have bought all my TV's and you get the 5-year warranty as standard. In other words, they will match the standard RS price, not the one with their chargeable 5-year warranty on it.

How much do you have to spend?

I'd recommend looking at the Panny TX-P37X20B if you can.

Well ive bought one!! Went into Richer Sounds after work and had a demo on a 42" version of the range below the 37" ive got, but seemed like an amazing picture in comparison to some others around it!

Anyhow, ive set it up but ive run into a problem already! Done the whole "auto-tuning" thing and as expected all channels were found and labelled correctly, however when trying to watch the aforementioned channels the picture is hurrendous! The best way I can simply describe it is like a cartoon, or like when you take a picture on a Nokia and "Cartoonise" it with the photo editer! LOL! Not what I expected I have to say.....

As an example here is a pic i found on Google that is almost EXACTLY how the picture is on my TV!

http://s3.amazonaws.com/picable/2008...-Women_400.jpg

At first I thought it was down to the tuning or possibly the Co-Axial connection but trying the co-ax in my old CRT it works perfectly! Ive also got an Xbox360 connected to it via a gold HDMI cable and the picture is equally bad with that!

Im sure its something simple, or at least I hope so but I really cant work it out!

Check what the John Lewis warranty covers first, as it's not much.

I think I know what you mean, have you tried wiggling the cables or swapping them over ?

Seems that you've either got that or a setting issue witht eh contrast.

Contrast will be way to high.

As a starting point:

Colour/Picture Mode: STANDARD or Expert (Set this first - other settings depend on it)
Sharpness: OFF
Brightness: about 1/3
Contrast: about half, no more than 60 unless in bright sunglight!
Backlight: 60-75 %
Dynamic Contrast: LOW or OFF
Backlight dimming: Low or OFF

I find it hard to believe that restoring it to factory settings and allow it to auto setup didn't sort this, which is why I am left with the judgement that it is faulty, especially given how bad Neil says the picture is.

Compared to a CRT,the picture on an 'LED' tv in full-blown 'look how great I am' mode, in your house not under store lighting, would look pretty bad.

I have now done this, amongst other configurations and non have improved the picture!

The only thing is does is vary the level of shite im having to watch, but no configuration makes it watchable! Totally disappointed!

just bought a 42 led. personally i dont see a huge difference in the picture quality other that plasmas are always darker and not as sharp.
the difference when playing grand theft auto on hdmi 1 is immense though.
