Default What oil to use?

Hi guys,

changing the sump gasket on my '87 ERST at the weekend and want to put some slightly thicker oil in than the 10w 40 that's in there at the moment due to the engine's age etc. It has approx 110k on the clock.

Maybe the grade is right? I'm an amateur when it comes to oil.

Cheers in advance guys

Hi I use castrol 10w60 because it's good if your running good power and can take higher temps.
I think a 15w 40 or 15w 50 could be better for you as it would be slightly thicker but that would be for summer use as in the winter with the low temps it would be thicker cold.

I'd go for a good quality fully syth oil, 10w40 or 10w50/60 if running loads more power.

If the engine is running fine I'd leave it alone, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
