Morning Mark, hope you are enjoying your stay here over the water

well as discussed as soon as you left I managed to fill the holes as requested with some left over grp as I was already working on some other grp stuff. Yesterday I sanded all the grp back then added filler to the top to get the finished profile back, it is now all smooth and will be un-noticable once flocked. Ive been at work now for an hour, just had a king prawn curry, brew and a quick game of darts so now its time to crack on. I shall upload pics of this mornings work at lunch time all being well, in the mean time here are some pics of what was done thursday night and yesterday, pics of today might be a bit crap as Barry isnt in work till lunch due to his old mans kareoke mobile breaking down meaning he has gone to the rescue.

Here is the standard alarm hole filled with grp, I filled it up to just below the top of the dash, this is so the base will be solid but there is still enough room to pop some filler which will give the perfect finished profile without the risk of cracks

Handbrake surround holes filled as requested, used some fiberglass sheeting cut to size fixed in place with some chopped strand

Now the filler applied

After some smoothing

well got most of the prep work done now, just having a break while bazza gets here and some filler sets.

Here is the other holes which needed sorting

Im just waiting for the filler to set then I can smooth and prep this part, I also removed a the rubber shut stops and some sort of plug I pressume for an imobiliser?

Here is some pics of the parts jiged up and ready ready for heat treatment, you can see the plastics changing colour as they just on the verge of melting point

Now they have been heat treated, they have been degreased and are now being subjected to the pre adhesive soloution to help generate the chemical bond between the epoxy and plastic

More to come very soon mate, the next batch of pics will be the ones of most interest to everyone. Cheers

Hello Mark,

sorry for the delay in posting these pics but it has been one of those days im afraid, both myself and Baz have been flat out trying to get things done on both yours and other projects, had a load of problems with various stuff but all work we both had booked in to do today was completed as planned, but instead of us finishing at 2, it was more like 5:30 :-(. The mrs was NOT impressed. But I must say that today would not of been possible without Barry, proper top lad for working his heart out and getting me out of the shit! He has been the back bone of the firm the last few weeks, cheers mate.

Anyway, here are the pics as promised, the parts are now at a constant cure temp of 32 degrees, once the timer is off then they will finish at ambient so by the time I get there tomorrow to give them a clean they should be all sorted ready for your collection at 5.

Well thats it now until tomorrow Mark mate, hope you have a great day tomorrow at National.

As for the comments left by other PF users, thankyou very much, means a lot and is great motivation to keep doing what we are doing. Cheers

(typed with a cold glass of carling and a home made tandoori chicken and pilau rice in hand) Happy days

Hello Mark,

well its been a while so its tim for a quick update. Firstly thanks for your patience with this, things are mental at the moment what with us moving premises etc. Anyway, here are some progress pics.

Here are all the palstics for the s2 interior all prepped ready for flocking courtessy of Baz

well they are all ready now, I have turned my attention to the custom double din housing you wanted. After a lot of thinking I have come up witha design which will make life easier in the future for maintenance and also be alot more stable. The design also alows the din carcase to be removed just like it can in a factory fit housing as with normal stereo slots.

Here is what I started with. I measured up some strips of plastic the same size as the metal caracse

I then offered them up in place against the metal carcase to confirm the size before tacking them together.

Slightly over size so a quick once over witht he dremel was required

Perfect

Now just needed to clamp them into position then tack them together

The end result is a perfect fitting housing for the carcase

Now it was a case of lining the housing in place and perfectly inline

Once in palce I used modelling putty to seal the front of the housing around the edges

With the housing in place it was time to flip the dash over and begin bonding. Using 3m panel bond and some grp I started witht he bonding

Now the rear of the housing is sorted, it was back onto the front, all the putty had to be removed before any more grp could be added

And now for the first application of grp

Well thats is so far, just waiting for the grp to harden then its on with the da to get the profile correct. Then probably another layr of grp, once more session with the da then its ready.

Hope you like the pics so far Mark, will upload some more as and when mate.

Hello Mark

well finished the housing now, just doing some fine sanding to make sure the profile is totally perfect and flawless. The stereo carcase fits nice and snugg within the housing which is exactly what I was after.

Now as you requested I have been thinking about the Norris Motorsport Tribute you wanted on the dash. I located their company logo and had some special plastic cnc machined the same.
The Logo

Position on dash

Confirm the letters are neat and the same as the logo

And in position

Right then, once the final sanding is finished I can then begin bonding and smoothing the tribute logo onto the dash. I hope this is the look you where going for Mark mate. More pics to come real soon. Thanks mate.

Got a little update for you Mark,

ive made a carbon sheet ready to cut to size for the centre control panel. I have also moched up a rough template, as you instructed you didnt want the carbom plate to be fixed in but mounted in a way so it can be removed etc. The existing console does not have anywhere to screw into etc, si I have now made some flanges where the carbon plate can be screwed to neatly and securely. The carbon plate is a 4 layer sheet which is mega light but nice and solid.

Nearly there now old pal, once this part is done then its on with the rest of the flocking then you can have all the bits back ready for you to fit in between scoffing you turkey dinner

You will have to ask mark on that one mate, he has been very patient with me as this project has really dragged on as we are in the process of moving premises, so his continued patience will be reflected on the invoice, I have no problem in him posting the final invoice on here once the work is done, I think the original quotation for the grp work on the stereo and cnc machined lettering was around the Ł90 mark. But the price is not so much the materials but the labour as there is a lot of hours needed to get the grp as smooth and neat as it is.
