Well after speaking to a garage i may be striking a deal on a 530d tourer sport in a couple of weeks....

Happy days but I keep hearing horror stories about swirlflaps ruining engines.

Does anyone know anyone in the north east area who removes them and does removing them effect the way the car drives at all?

Do it yourself mate! Very easy........

Also an opportunity to clean out inlet and EGR valve.

Done mine and has made no difference to performance or economy

i didnt buy the blanks when done mine, i removed them then filled the hole with a tapered screw witha little sealer added whilst tightening

i would deffo get it done, and while the manifold off having the engine breather filter changed is a must

 

E39 shape - only vehicles with an automatic gearbox have swirl flaps on the inlet manifold. Manual gearbox vehicles do not.
E60/61 - All gearbox types have the engine with swirl flap inlet manifold.
