Default BMW 320d - any good?

Thinking about buy a 320d M sport coupe, around 2006/07. It is either the diesel or petrol 2.0 i am thinking off.

Currently i have an A3 2.0l turbo s-line with the dsg flappy paddles that is FULLY loaded with just about every extra on it but thinking it is time for a change and maybe also something more economical.

Seem to be a lot of reports if the bmw suffering expensive bits going like the dtc and dfp's etc even with full service histories and reasonable miles, and wondering if they are prone to bits going belly up!!

The Audi has never put a foot wrong and being so spec'd up is a really great car that looks stunning, but just got a hankering for a 3 series coupe.

Any views/advice on them will be welcomed as i really can't decide if i should let the Audi go or stay put??

Drove a 320d and didn't really like it. IMO go for the 325d much nicer engine. Dad's BMW had the traction module go tits up and the wiper/indicator/horn module but done under warranty.

sure the 320d are bad for turbo failure and the 6 cylinder 330d is bad for the butterfly valves in the inlet breaking and going in to the cylinder bending valves etc

that the sort of stuff putting me off, two of my mates have 1 series, both with reasonable miles etc and was has just had to spen d a grand on a turbo and the other has just had the dtc light come on and it looks expensive.

Would be pretty miffed at spending 16-18k and then getting hit with large bills!!

Bloody love the look of the 3 series coupe and really want one, but worried i am going to chop in the A3 that has all the toys and is faultless for a car with far fewer optional extras and common expensive issues all to forfill my cosmetic desires lol!!

Not had a 320d mate but did have a 330d and it was a brilliant car apart from the autobox, whatever you do dont get an auto for it has anywhere around 80-100k miles on unless its had a recon box or your looking at a 2k+ bill.Another common problem is the 'swirl flaps' break off and kill your engine.

my dad has had a 59 plate 320d for a while now and like it a lot. its an auto too lol for the old dear.

he says it handles far better than his old audi a4 2.0l fsi turbo, and its not far off the pace but returning 50odd mpg lol. and the tax is Ł135 a year

he also used to be a rally driver back in the 70's, so he knows a little about cars lol

i havnt driven yet tho lol
