My missus has a 57 plate ford fiesta 1.6 tdci done 31 thousand miles now when you run it on the motor way for a bit then come to a roundabout or that the gears are very stiff are they cable opetared ? & is this a common fault i will phone ford today as i think its still in warranty but just wanted a heads up cause i know what they can be like

 

Yes they are cable but I don't know of any common faults, also think your warranty will have ended unless you have extended warranty.

 

Just checked on the dvla site its in warranty untill november i will call them shortly cant see it being a cable if its only getting tight when warm

 

Pop the gear gaitor off and you will see if it's cable, our 04 plate Mk6 was cable.

 

Im almost sure it will have gear cables on. Isnt the car still under the 3year warrenty.

 

Its still under warranty & its cable i work for a bmw / mini dealer its the same engine & box as the new mini cooperD & there is a problem with the nylon bush on the shift unit on the box that dosent lubricate itself causing stiff gears ford say they dont cover adjustments but will cover the shift unit

 

99.9% sure it will have cables.

its 100% got cables,
fixed a few of these like this,
the prob will be the selector shaft on the gearbox,
dampness gets in and corrodes the shaft, quick clean up and alls good again,
if ford wont entertain you let me know, i'm goin to johnstone to get a van off eddie in next couple days, i'll swing by and sort it out,
only take 15mins

 

IB5 gearbox has got cables there is a plastic cover on the front of the gearbox most probably a detent fault
