Default Focas Nearside Driveshaft.

Hello. Could I have some Information regarding on a Focas Nearside Driveshaft removal. I got the Hub off the car, now I need to remove the driveshaft from the gearbox. on the New replacement, I see there's a round clip that retains the shaft to the Box. Now I've read the haynes manual and it's says in the, use a sliding hammer or a lever. Well I have'nt got a sliding Hammer so i used a Crow bar. it's seems it the shaft is not sliding out from the box,so I used a Copper mallet, but no joy there.

Could anybody give me other ways to remove the shaft form the box end.
All Information would be gratefully received.
Thankyou. Andy

they are a bit of a pig mate as you have to shock it to suddenly compress the circlip. the only way i managed to do it was remove the drivers side shaft first along with the bearing support bracket to create space, then insert a long flat headed screw driver through the diff (the longer the better) making sure it locates only on the end of the shaft and give it a good sharp tap with a lump hammer!

The way i find works for me is if you can leaver it from the top and the bottom. if you cant get it from the top leaver it from the bottom then spin the drive shaft round abit the leaver it again and so on. and if you have not drain the oil out the box make sure you got something to catch it or it will piss out every were.

I removed the Off side drive shaft, and place a long bar through the box to the Nearside shaft, and used a large copper mallet gave it a couple of hard hits, then out it popped.
I had a go by levering on the nearside, but I didn't had much luck there what so ever. So by removing the offside shaft was easyier.

Thanks agian for your Help.
Kind Regards
Andy

not a prob, we like to help. theres not much room on the focus for levering on the shaft and i got right pissed off with mine and started thinking the usual "oh fuck i cant change my nackered shafts i'm gonna look a right nob pushing it accross the road to the local garage" but my dad had the mirricle idea of going through the diff!

what is it about dad's that makes them able to see the easy solution that you missed!!

Well Phil. I think that we are to busy getting on with that we worked out, so you got the job half done, while dad just stands there and watch you, through blood sweat and tears, then he says why did't you do this in that, stead of doing what your doing. then that penny drops from a great height.

Yeah i know were your coming from. been there done that. All part off a big Learning curve, but I enjoy it tho.

Take care. Andy
