Default Advice on porting a head

I am looking for advice regarding porting a cylinder head. Having never done it before, i am keen to have a go, having looked through the internet, some sites say its much easier than its made out to be, others say its every bit as difficult.
Hopefully some of the experienced folk on here will be able to say if its worth having a go myself or that i shouldn't even be thinking of it!

The head in question by the way is a 1.6 Carb CVH, obviously i would i would prefer not to balls it up, but if it does go wrong it's not the end of the world as its not the head off my engine.

Any suggestions on how to go about it properly and safely, and what to look out for and bere in mind would be very much appreciated

Youve answered it yourself have a go if the head is not needed it doesnt matter as much but if unsure you would be better sending it to a specialist as they can test it on a flow bench not just a wild guess.
