Daily hack suggestions
Right I need a daily hack. And it needs to be sporty. Something to do with my insurance underwriters only offering to mirror my ncb to another ‘sports’ model car.
The budget is around £1000-1500 and its for use to drive to work everyday. I’m not gonna bother modding it to keep it reliable, diesel would be a bonus but, its probably not gonna fulfil my insurance criteria.
As my ncb is tied up with my FRS I have zero ncb to use on this car, with my postcode, that equates to £600 a year in insurance on even the most basic of fiestas. If I go for something sporty, it saves me £200 on insurance as they offer me an introductory discount. (2 litre MR2 was £400 fully comp).
Answers on a postcard please for cars you would reccomend.
alternatively if anyone knows of any insurance companys that mirror no claims on normal cars, can they let me know?

Chris knott insurance will mirror no claims. Also if you contact first point insurance, they too will assist in mirroring.
I have a policy via them that actually takes into account the no claims I have with one car with one insurance company and will mirror that same discount onto another vehicle that is insured with a different insurer.
If your insurance needs are any more complicated than one car two drivers, give them a call and see if they can help.

However they are comfy, reasonably quick, handle well and look smart in my opinion!
as far as the MOT goes, bar rust and bottom arms, there pretty good mate. mine's 13 year old, done 108k, and it just sailed through its mot a month ago. it has been garaged most of its life, so there isnt a spot of rust on the sills, chassis legs, floor, nothing. obviously there are rusty old sheds out there, but with your budget, you should get a really good one. there a little bit thirsty if your heavy with your right foot, get about 30 to the gallon combined, around the doors, low 20's, will get more if you drive like miss daisy, bust obviously, you wont be lol.

most being suggested in this thread are a bad idea for £1000-1500 because sporty number in that price range usually need another grand or 2 spending on them to put them right, and many of the above mentioned are very complex cars with alot of common faults. how many people have i seen buy old v6 mondeo's on the meg forums who scrap them 6 months later when faced with a £1500 HG or big-end repair bill - err quite alot. also seen plenty scrap them when faced with a £100 repair bill tbh. 2.5V6 with 20-25mpg for a daily hack when its £1.20 per litre? wouldnt be so bad if they had the power to justify the engine size/weight.
get something more sensible, 4-pot, with adequate oomph, avoiding VAG's, bmw, merc, rover, vauxhall, italian, and french.
a guy at work has a 56 plate cupra turbo with 150k miles, he's had recent bills of £1800 and £1000 yet it still has the same faults (and has developed more since dealership repairs)
i'd go for something ford, nissan, volvo or toyota.

lol@image. I Hated them. Used to call them maxo's. Then bought one, had it 18 months as my daily drive and loved it
Surprisingly economical, reasonably nippy to the point where i embarrassed a couple of subarus, pretty agile too.
but DOH i forgot about 172's. Forget the maxo

Fiesta 1.25 mk4, thats what i got cost peanuts to buy, insurance and tax, and runs on air most of the time, had it a year and its never let me down, will even fit a 3.5 metre ladder in, with a bit of a overhang
gonna do this tonight.....not holding out much faith though, havent had anyone else thats been able to touch greenlights prices in the last few years
Citroen AX 1.5 diesel, bloke at work has one, bought it for £250 about 3 years ago, has never spent a penny on it, refuses to do less than 60mpg. Not really something you want to be seen driving, but very little will beat it for cheap motoring!!
As for the saxo vts idea, wouldn't a 106 gti be better? Pretty much the same car apart from the acconotations with being a yobbo!

Yes a 106 is probably better image wise but always seem to be that bit more expensive. For top end budget of £1500 you'll get a lot better saxo than 106. Or at least was the case 2 years ago when i had mine.
