RS 500 Thermostat ?
Hi Guys,
Just striped my thermostat housing off to clean it up and wanted to
change the stat at the same time but it looks different from a normal
setup...firstly there is a collar inside the housing which is stuck in which
looks like it holds the thermo in and also no one seems to list a thermo
for the 500....idealy i'm looking for a 82 degree stat, not sure what they
are standard ????
Any Help welcomed ?

The thermostat retainers do have a habit of corroding into place. The best thing to do is :
1. drill and tap 2 M6 threads in the aluminium retainer, about 12mm deep,
2. wind in a couple of bolts
3. use a pry bar on the 2 bolts to twist the retainer free
If you do it this way, you'll never struggle again, and the 2 tapped holes won't cause any issues at all

I was thinking along those lines but wasn't sure how deep the retainer was not having had one apart before...are the stats the same as a 2wd type ?
JUst posted on the rs site mate - with a link to flea bay.
These are quite deep - from recollection about 8mm, maybe more. Warming them with the lid on then soaking in oil was what I did... left it overnight and hey presto
