I'm looking at restoring one of the cars mentioned in the title. This would my first restoration. I've never really restored a car before but I have enough prior about vehicles and parts for me to attempt one all be it a long drawn one.

Can you guys give me any advice for a first time restoration?
What things should I expect to give me problems?
How much should I look to budget?
Why wouldn't you restore a Capri or a Cortina?
How long should I estimate on completing the project?
Have any of you guys re designed original parts and upgraded them in any form of capacity?

 

i prefer the cortina's. i wouldnt bother budgeting it WILL go over lol. but so worth it when you have a decent build thread and take it to shows and people know what its about ya know

 

my advice would first fo all be prepared for it, you need a garage or some were under cover that is dry, as its a old car and a ford you need 2 make sure its dry or it will proberly rust so amke sure you have all the tools etc as well, theres a lot of stuff to get even before you get the car if you havn't got it already
oh and as for the car, don't cut any corners, if you need some thing made up, get it made up dont bodge it

 

depends which cortina and which capri. I would say a mk3 capri is easier and cheaper to restore than a mk1 cortina, but a cortina 80 would be cheaper than a mk1 capri.

I like the look of the Cortina as its got this Muscle Car look. Capri just has this old school american coupe feel about it. I do like them both and would love to do both.

I don't like the first marks, I prefer the latest Cortina, and the latest Capri, but the Capri I like the 2.8 or the 3.0 engine models.

I'm doing all the preparation I can do for it all now, just been reading like mad and doing my search for potential parts for my restoration.

I've got a garage at the back of my garden, I'm intending on using that it's been unused by anyone for the past 20 odd years so hopefully I can clean that out and use it.

I'm really cautious about the rusting issues, so thanks for the heads up, I will look into it as much as I can.

I definately won't be looking at even bodging the smallest of things. I want to be proud of what I finish.

mk2 cortina or mk3 capri

 

I like both cars mate.There are to many capris about so do a cortina.

 

other way round would be better... mk3 cortina (with a V8) or a mk2 capri.. (with a V8)

 

dads got a mk3 cappa 2.8i special with a 24v thats good enough for me
