has anyone done their own using a kit similar to http://www.turborebuild.co.uk/p/prod...4+Service+kit/

isit easy enough or best left to the pro's

dont you need to get someting balanced?

are "whining" and smoking turbo's fixed by using a kit like the above?

they will need testing and balancing if you want them to last more than 5 minutes yes

you need not balance them if you mark the shaft, nut and comp wheel before disasembly, and make sure they go back together the same way.

yes providing they are not soo badly worn that the turbine or compressor have machined the housings.

like said above, mark the position of compressor wheel on shaft. check the shaft itself for excessive wear around bearing journals, other than that the rebuild kit is pretty straightforward. just go carefull when installing the seal rings, very much like miniature piston rings and can distort/break easily on installation, other than that, the hardest part is undoing the bolts on the turbine housing!!!! oh, a good pair of small, long-nose internal circlip pliers is very helpful.

As above, ive even missmatched compressor wheels and shafts from different turbos and got away with it! not recomending this by any means!, when a turbo is built it is balanced out of the cartridge on a test bed, then dissassembled, and re assembled into the cartridge, so i dont see any issues with diy re-builds as long as you follow the above instruction.
