the fuel guage on my escort van works in reverse, when its empty the gauge reads full and when it's full the guage reads empty. Any idea what the problem could be?

 

Mismatch between sender and gauge, one of them isn't correct, some do high to low resistance, other car manufacturers do low to high, doesn't matter which so long as gauge and sender are correct for each other.
