Brilliant mate, brings back some memories!! ...IIRC it was a manual shift in the FPA when I did mine, the paddle shift, video and lap stats stuff is an ultra cool addition.

Been 6 years since I did my 'Magnificent 7' day at Palmersport for my 21st and it still brings back amazing memories... not cheap day by any means, but if you're into cars/track driving/balls to the wall blasts then I'll 110% guarantee that you'd enjoy this.

Cheers,
Grant

whoops! edited title!

not an FPA. you are right! they were years ago. Had Audi Turbo engines and a 5 speed Hewland Dog box!

They were gooood.

They updated them 3 years ago. Muuuuch better now with Jag engine and sequential paddle shift

6 years? I can barely last 6 weeks with out going!!! I try and get down once a month in the 'season' that its open for.

what other cars you drive? 6 years ago. from memory was that.... clio cup racer, caterham, Evo, 911, Frontera, kart, FPA single seater?

or was it Honda S2000 instead of 911?

Just incredible day out. never gets boring.

Mate, if I could... I'd be there as often as you are, even the 800 mile round trip wouldn't stop me!!

Sounds like I'll need to save up and get myself down to sample the new line-up since its changed from my trip down.

I drove:

Clio Cup Racer: Properly amazing little car, was paired with a guy I went to school with as my instructor and he's a very handy driver so we got the best from the car.
Frontera: Offroading is ok, doesn't exactly get the adrenaline pumping tho!!
Caterham: Couldn't believe the sensation of speed and enjoyment in such a low powered bathtub.
VX220 Turbo: Lost the back end on the exit of a bend, had a tank slapper for a couple of seconds and then ran out of talent?!
Evo: Good laugh knocking it sideways in a carefree environment.
Kart: Lasting memory of this is coming off with my forearms aching!!
Palmersport Jaguar: Really enjoyed this car, sounded great and handled very well.. once you get a bit of heat in the brakes/tyres.
FPA Single Seater: Awesome!! Gearbox was mechanical as hell, engine gave you a decent kick, handling was great.. made you feel like you were properly flying. ...video footage my dad took showed that I wasn't flying as fast as I thought.

Cheers,
Grant

Presumably only select people get a go in the single seaters?

nice vid..

Are the engines rev limited below what you'd normally expect in a race car as you seemed to be bouncing off the limiter abit ?

last day I did like this at Thurxton a few years ago the formula Renault sport cars were limited to 4500 rpm which was a bit crap.

no everyone gets to drive them.

You don't have to go fast!

most people don't

believe it or not the people I was overtaking were actually going pretty quick and are very decent drivers! One races a Porsche 928 at the moment.

most people go very slowly at first.

I've driven them ALOT and so have alot of confidence and experience of how hard you can push them.

Was just being lazy with changes whilst tyres were cold at the start.... also if you can see its whilst I was coming into corners a few times. If you change up and then immediantly change down and dont get a smooth shift with cold tyres... the back end will lock up on you... better to just stay on limiter until tyres are warm.

and no... cars NOT rev limited.

Its on ANOTHER PLANET to all other track experiences out there.

You can see how hard I was pushing and overtaking is certainly allowed!

Cars have a trick GPS system on and power gets cut if you go off track too far. V cool.

Blimey!

Seems a bit of a bargain really. That fleet of cars must cost a pretty penny to maintain as they've can't miss a beat at any time. And then there's the track and all the other facilities.

TOTAL bargain.

MOST people don't realise that! so well done mate

Certainly cheaper than doing a trackday in your own car if its anything half decent and you look at the REAL costs involved.

You won't believe the amount of track time you get in some AMAZING cars.

ridiculous amounts of staff it takes to run it... even the food is TOP notch.

There are none in private hands.

All owned by Palmersport up until recently when they sold a few to Yas marina circuit in Abu dhabi

and yes... I am flying out to drive them around that incredible circuit! Cant WAIT!

Anything MSV/Jonathan Palmer is involved in his top notch. He certainly turned Brands Hatch around pretty quickly...

Only ever been to Bedford once and that was the RSOC Day in 2005. Looked like a very impressive set-up and everything ran like clockwork.
