it a 1.6 focus which are prone to engine failure. good engines are hard to come by and when you do find one they are in the region of £400-500. he's fairly competent with a spanner but wants to know if he is going to hit any major problems.

anyone ever done this conversion? or even tried?

sure it can be done if you use all the bits from the escort - will need a relevant fuel tank, lines, ecu, wiring, etc

the mtx75 box in the escort will need the correct mounts and driveshafts sourced for it to fit into the focus. Plus your focus will have a cable shift box that will not work with the escort one. Everything else is fairly straight forward, throttle cable and stop solenoid should be easy enough.

Sounds like it'll be a nightmare! The engine will go in reasonably easy, but the ECU, PATS and wiring are all going to be a big headache I reckon! You will probably need a new fuel tank, pump, fuel lines, exhaust and maybe even suspension as the diesel lump will be heavier.

ecu? if its a bosch rotary pump on the engine with a throttle cable then there is no ecu and the only wiring is an ignition live to the stop solenoid. But yeah basicaly i wouldnt bother, fix the car and sell it to buy a diesel.
