Small turbo or big turbo???

I'd start by looking at the crank and phase sensors, mostly likely it'll be that.

If its a Weber version on P8 then its most likely in limp home mode which is a probably sensor failure. Have an expert plug into teh ECU and analyse the datastream.

K plate big turbo. It's been on a diagnostic machine today and is picking nothing up. But been told that the engine loom plug corrodes on them so we are going to give them a clean and try that.

Not my car but the things that have already been checked:
phase sensor condition and gap:0.2mm
Plug gaps: 0.6mm
New rotor arm and cap
New leads
CPS gap 0.8mm
Car will pull past the 4000rpm but appears to misfire until through.
car is running greens and a chip, boost is currently 20psi peaking at 22psi.
Headgasket has recently been changed.

When mine last did this, it was the CPS (does the rev counter jump about at the same time? If so, then deffo this, otherwise as Stu says, it's in limp mode).

Mine was doing exactly this before I stripped it to a shell for the resto. I'm guessing becasue my front crank seal was leaking, the oil was smearing the cps sensor and I was wiping all the crud off it every couple of weeks

I'm hoping it does'nt return when it's rebuilt.....
