Hi all. I have a really annoying problem that I can't seem to cure. The Car is an Escort; but, it is running the engine, loom, ecu, and running gear from a 2wd Saff, hence why I thought it should go in here!
The car; when hot or cold, usually turns over for a good 5-10 seconds before it will fire and start. Maybe 1 in 15 times it will start on the button. The saff that I pulled everything out of started on the button; even after being sat for a couple of months!
The only things I have changed since doing the conversion are the injectors and chip; however I have tried the old chip and it made no difference. The injectors were bought second hand and I am told they were reconditioned, plus the car drives perfectly so I have no reason to doubt them atm.
I have changed the cps, ect, act, coil, plugs and checked and double checked the wiring and am now completely stumped!!!!!

What you probably didn't change was the fuel pump.
Try this: ignition on, but do not start! Wait 2 seconds for fuel pressure to build up and then start the engine.
If that works then the pressure drops without the pump running. Usually a defective fuel pump.

 

Yep! Brand new uprated fuel pump, rewired from the battery back; and brand new fpr.

 

Get the injectors checked, I've had one that was iffy when cold but perfect once running, but could be a lot of things.

Or have a local garage perform an exhaust gas test.
Then you know what is going on during cranking and cold running and that's probably cheaper than checking injectors.

 

Sussed it 2 leaking injectors!
