Sounds like the crank trigger wheel is out of allignment

Dont change it as if it was live mapped like that you may melt it !

Also, it could be possible you are interpretting the marks wrong IF the trigger wheel is misplaced and in fact the engine tune may actually be correct.
Be carefull and seek professional advice is my recomendation. !

the lug on the trigger wheel on crank should be at 90* to each other, and on TDC should be over the sensor correct? if so that is what mine is, and the phase sensor is two lugs, 90* to each other, and lug 1 on phase sensor is 45* crank degrees around and the next 180* crank degrees further around on cam, which is what mine is currently set at.

however surely at 30* advance, it shouldnt run? but mine is, just idling high and getting ho very quick, fan kicking in at around 7 minutes idling time. this cant be right?

The lug location is only relevant to the sensor location and NOT where it is in relation to the engine if that makes sense.

Line up the crank lug until the falling edge is at the centre on the sensor. Then that will show you where the ECU thinks TDC is and you can check this by looking down a bore.

I think you will find that TDC will be correct then...

The engine behaviour does sound like over advanced ignition but could equally be a lean mixture/air leak/bad mapping/other fault..etc...

The engine will run with a atrue 30 degree advance at idle as during starting, the actual timing is ignored

However, 30 degrees may be used if the CR of the engine is very low !

ah right okay! so if the car previous that the ECU was mapped on had a lower CR would require a more advanced ignition.

using low comp pistons, but the head has been skimmed a fair amount, so this would higher the CR by probably a fair bit, so could do with less advance.

and i see what your saying about the crank sensor, and when we set it up it was as close to that of what you have said. looks like i need to take it to someone to have a look at it and stuff, cant see that being cheap!
