yorks only an hour from me, go there every couple of months, nice to go on the train in the summer, and enjoy the pubs, the little streets and shops are nice and relaxing to walk round, several areas of street theater to watch aswell

There is a pub that is seriously haunted and they play on it. We went there a few years ago, can't remember what its called, but its in the tourist information brochures. Dungeons is great, boat ride if the weather is nice. No visit is complete without going to Betty's Tea Rooms and having your pants pulled down for a scone and a cuppa.

The Yordvic center is worth a look, very interesting and factual. York is a lovely place to be, full of narrow shopping streets and alfresco cafes + bars. I also think there is a Turkish spa too which might be worth a visit.

Nearly forgot, there's the railway museum! They had a bullet train in there a little while back!

Isn't TOTB on this weekend? That's at Elvington just outside York. There's also an air museum there. These might not be so quiet though.

I went to York at the beginning of last month with my other half.

We stayed in a placed called "Gregorys of York". It's a B&B, at the more expensive end of the scale, but the rooms are excellent and the food served up for breakfast is top notch. It's only a mile walk from the city centre too.

Whilst there we went to see the Railway Museum, The Yorvik Centre, York Minster (a must, especially if you're fit enough to climb the tower), York Castle Museum which has the Kirkgate Victorian street. We also walked along the old city walls.

There's loads of good places to eat as well. Top recommendation is Caesars situated on Goodramgate, which is just behind the Minster. Try going to Melton's as well.

Finally, if you've got the time, try and get on one of the Ghost Walks in the evening, but choose carefully - some are good with their presentation but others are a bit uncharasmatic.
