Evening all, my car has started running on 3 pots for about 20 seconds when I start the car and then it clears its self. Have any of you guys got any idea what the cause could be?

Cheers

could be any number of things, injector problem, sensor problem to a head gasket problem!

unless you are handy with spanners i'd suggest taking it to someone who know's what they are doing IMO

you've got Norris (NMS) on your doorstep!

Could just be a diff plug, next time you start it, quickly pull each lead off in turn to identify the plug, then swap plugs around and see if the problem moves to the new cylinder the suspect plug is now in.

Just changed the plugs and it was firing on all cylinders, I will try it again later on and let you know if it is ok. Cheers for the assistance guys, Mike I'm hoping it's not a cracked block, lol!

Me too! You'll know for sure if you go and use it again, as it's normally a hairline crack in No.3 that only opens up enough when the engine is hot and the cooling system is pressurised. That cylinder then is a struggle to fire until the water clears.

Keep an eye on the header tank for loss of water or if becoming excessively pressurised . Fingers crossed it was just a tired plug .

My first thoughts were leaky injector, but sounds like it was an easy fix

Not at all, the symptoms are specific - not just a generic misfire .

I would only fear for a cracked block if the car started on three cylinders and then cleared itself after 10-15s of running and the water level went down / was being pressurised, hence why a clarified exactly what to look out for in this event .

Don't shoot the messenger - 205 blocks are KNOWN for doing this (been there, done it, got the T-shirt ) .
