Question What Brakes?

Hi,

Im new to the S2 world (just bought one today) and already im not a big fan of the brakes. Please could some one point me in the direction of a good setup? I dont want to do any conversion (cosworth or alike) I just want the best discs and pads that will bolt straight on...

Thanks for your help I appreciate it...

If you dont want to do a cossie conversion and want to stay with standard size then you cant go wrong with tarox discs and ferrodo dsp pads i have used these on my last 3 rst's and highly recommend them

IMO if your under 200brake IF! if if if, and the standard disks and calipers are in good condition get some ferodo DS2500 pads, they're expensive but i run them on mine and they're well up to the job for town driving with the occasional blast.

otherwise get cosworth 4x4 calipers and 2wd disks.

Hiya mate, im defo under 200bhp I think its running around 142bhp, so not that quick but quick enough for me (well my misses as its her car).

The discs on the car are standard RST and aint been changed in the last 2 years however the car has only done 6k miles in that time.

Ive not driven an S2 for 10 years or so but I seem to remember mine stopped a LOT better than this one does! Its also had the ABS took off, as I have been told, this makes for a better braking system?

Ive probably got Ł150-Ł175 to put on the brakes as it needs body work doing and some other bits, but as its quite standard I thought get some good brakes for now, finish the body work then start again (next year) on the power.

So what do we think now?

Thanks for your help guys

Made a big difference to mine the tarox discs and ferrodo pads along with braided hoses, stay away from black diamond and ebc as they are utter shite!!!

mine was a base model orion so had no abs to start with. but i'd start with some decent pads and maybe a brake system bleed? for the money it'd cost its worth that to see the difference it could make.

Same as above mate better discs and ferodo pads, defo change the brake fluid, overhaul the rear drums too and replace rear brake shoes, drums and the pistons that activate the shoes as these can leak when the seals perish. Might be worth fitting braided lines too for a better pedal feel.

OK guys im on with the braided hoses, drum overhaul, shoes and still not to sure what discs and pads to buy. Ive been told by my tunner that fitting tarrox and ferodo is more for the track and they take a while to heat up, so by the time my misses is at work they will be cracking but scary uptill that point. This isnt what I want I need something that will stop it straight away... Someone else said put standard S2 discs on and ferodo pads? Does that sound a good idea?

You could just get away with ferodo pads yes but as well changing the discs for better ones if you are gonna replace them. Nothing fancy just good quality.

YES!!! just get Ferodo pads and a system bleed if the disks are in good confition. if its not 100% improved theres something else wrong.
Please trust me on this, ferodo pads on std disks are more than upto the job, mine has been for 17 months or more.

for your hp and your missus driving theres no need for any more.

fit DS220 pads instead of DS2500 pads if your worried about heating up time. the DS220 are direct replacements.
