Default RS Turbo Needed to TEST NEW GEARBOX

i dont know if a few of you guys remember i had a heavy duty gearbox built at my expense for my track car as i was sick of blowing up other uprated boxes.

https://passionford.com/forum/ford-e...o-gearbox.html

The company that do them are planning or hoping to put them in production in a 5 and 6 speed option. Now they are after a customer and their car that they can get the box fitted to for the customer to try and test the box.

The car it is will be fitted to will have to use their as per normal and just report back the feedback and hopefully get it featured in the magazine should this project take off.

At the moment its not a definate what the prices are etc etc etc but the more interest the cheaper the kits are to produce.

The ideal person with their car should be located nort west engalnd and have a good spec power and a history of blowing up gearboxes.

Please leave a message with you car spec - series one or two as it uses a heavy duty special case and i will get back on tuesday or wednesday with some more info.

I would be interested in a 6speed item, as long as it passes some huge abuse. Do you have any more information on the boxes?

you would be getting the box for free, so if it fails unlucky, but if not you would have over Ł2000 work of box.

I have one in my track car but they want someone who is connected in the RS world.

i'll test it on my zvh with 23psi of boost, i reckon it'll only take a week or two to get it noisy like all the rest on high boost setting.
not an rs though

You aren't very forth coming with actual specs on the box...

Is it a standard BC bellhousing? What are the ratios? What diff is in it? Will you need to modify a rod linkage? Is is cable linkage? Is it cable clutch? Etc etc.

Even if your offering a free box - you got to give us punters something to go on.

It says in his other thread (linked to in first post), Quaiffe ATB, Custom casing with extra webbing, etc..

Thats great Karlos, but if its a custom casing/internals, is it still rod linkage? Is it still cable clutch? Ratios?

No specifics have been released on the box, it's all general stuff.

Wow - great reply there 2nd gear. All i'm asking is for some information which you have eluded to in a previous post, brilliant. Nothing specific.

Your going to sell these for 2.5k and you don't give us bugger all to go on. Jog on.

you should get in touch with crazycage as his is a daily car(lives in northwest) with trips to pod etc and runs a zetec turbo with a tasty amount of torque and i would of thought if his can't break it then 95% of us have no chance of doing one anyone else think he'd give it some serious stick, stu yours too would give it some stick but i don't think yours does enough mileage to give it a quick enough test or to break it if it's as good as mentioned

Would this box fit in a Series 1 if it's got a custom casing?

I think the thought that will have gone into this box etc will have been extraordinary. BUT IMO there is nothing you can do to a bc or ib5 box that will make it stronger than an mtx75....

Im sorry, but why didn't this company spend more time pursuing an mt75 conversion kit, ie off the shelf brakets/mounts etc to create an easy conversion.... 2.5K is well out of many peoples reach, any one proper with that amount of money to spend will pay some one else to fit an mtx75 with a Quaiffe atb etc and still have a cheaper and i suspect better solution.

Your 6 speed will inherently be weaker than the 5 speed too, so although i feel guilty for putting down what im sure is A LOT of hard work this just isn't a realistic solution to the weak gearbox in a 20+ year old car.

yes it will fit into series one, two, fiesta st, puma etc etc rod change or cable the choice is yours.

Rob_DOHC, the b5 box started life a a 950 fiesta pop box. if in your 'IMO' you think there is nothing you can do to a bc or ib5 box that will make it stronger very well but this box is. there is no point of me putting down every detail for people then to go to other companies to get them to copy the idea that is why i am being careful on what to and not to say.

There is a demand for a decent box that can be fitted, forgotten about and take abuse

JUST WAIT AND SEE ........

is there a lot of diference in size of this box
the reason i ask is the 5spd is tight in an escort bay so is it a direct fit or do you have to get the grinder out

it is a direct fit, to look at it you would not know any difference apart from numbers on the box

Sounds good in theory but i agree with Rob, Im putting a Focus RS box in mine for less that half that price and it will take alot more power and torque than i could ever throw at it!!

If it's the same size as a normal box then it has its merits as some cars need major arch alteration to fit an MTX in.

However, have to agree in a way that devloping off the shelf MTX shafts and mounts may have been a more viable proposition for retail.

Im sure there is a demand mate, but not at the preliminary price of 2500, you will have to directly compete with CTS's current price range (whether or not this box is better) to have a reasonable demand.

Adding extra strengthening ribs is all very well etctec, the bc and IB5 boxes were designed in an era when computer modelling wasn't the norm. Ford will have spent well over the entire design budget of the BC box just computer modelling and stress analysing the casing of the MTX75. And seing as no small company in Britain (how ever sad it is) has the capability to allocate an entire research team and several million pounds to gearbox case design let alone gear design unfortunately this box inherently will not beat an mtx75 on both cost and durability grounds.

Admittedly the mtx75 will have been built to a cost, however there are plenty of companies out there who make uprated components for MT75 series gearboxes.

I genuinely hope i will be proven wrong.... As i am all for small UK firms flying the flag...

I agree the box does have this on its side....

I don't think you have to be particularly careful about box specifications, there are very few companies who could be arsed to go to the extreme measures you/your firm has gone to. You may win a few people over with some better information in the long run.

On a serious side note....

Every one has been crying out for off the shelf MTX75 conversion bits for ages! like drive shafts, templates, mounts etcetc.... If there was one available a few months i know i would have bought one!
